Listed here are times when a volunteer from the Fox Valley Genealogical Society will be available in the adult services department to help any interested individuals who wish to obtain assistance either to get started on a genealogy project or to complete difficult genealogical research challenges. Online Resources All databases are available from home with your library card number and PIN, except Ancestry –Library Edition which is in-library use only. No library card is needed to access these resources within the library.

Arcadia Histories and Ghost Stories on HooplaA huge selection of Arcadia Publishing's Local Histories are available remotely through the library's digital content provider Hoopla. Arcadia is the leading publisher of local and regional histories in the United States. Titles include: Slovaks of Chicagoland, Naperville Illinois, Chicago's Polish Downtown, Sullivan County, Ghosts of Leavenworth, and Haunted Springfield Illinois. Look to these guides to enrich your knowledge of the environment within which your ancestors lived, and to enjoy some historical ghost stories!

Try-it Illinois"Try-It! Illinois offers...users of the more than 5,000 ILLINET member libraries the opportunity to survey and evaluate a wide variety of electronic resources. Thanks to the partnerships between the Illinois State Library and the participating electronic resource vendors, there is no charge for accessing these databases during Try-It! Illinois." These free databases can be accessed from your home computer. Now through November 31st you can go to the Try-it Illinois website and request a user name and password. Genealogy: Field Trip to the Naperville Family History Center Saturday, October 21, 10:00 a.m. Family History Center, 1320 Ridgeland Ave. Naperville’s Family History Center offers an abundance of resources for genealogy enthusiasts. The Director of the resource center will introduce resources including: newspaper archives, Alexander Street Press, Find My Past Institution Edition, World Vital Records, Historic Map Works, MyHeritage Library Edition, Puzzilla.org and trials of family tree-building software. The center has 8 computers. Bring a laptop to ensure access to the online content. Meet at the center located in the church just north of the intersection of Ogden Ave. and Naper Boulevard, immediately north of the McDonald's. Entrance is on the east end of the building. Continue the genealogical camaraderie by gathering at 11:30 a.m. for lunch at nearby Butterfield's Pancake House, 1504 N. Naper. Each participant pays own check.

Thursday, November 9, 7 p.m. Naperville Municipal Center, Lower Level Beginning in January Fox Valley Genealogical Society began gathering questions and topics for which program attendees requested answers. They will break into small groups to talk about them. Members will lead the groups.

10 a.m. Nichols Community Room Jason Kruski, author of “ A Guide to Chicago and Midwestern Polish-American Genealogy,” will be returning to present tools particular to researching Polish-American ancestry in the United States and ancestral villages in Poland. Kruski will discuss a wide variety of records including vital, church and immigration records available on the internet from the USA and Poland.
