Listed here are times when a volunteer from the Fox Valley Genealogical Society will be available in the adult services department to help any interested individuals who wish to obtain assistance either to get started on a genealogy project or to complete difficult genealogical research challenges. American Ancestors is granting free access to all online databases—highlights include early New England collections (including the world's largest Mayflower database) and Boston's Catholic records from 1789 to 1900 —from now through Tuesday, July 17th.

104 S. Michigan Ave. Chicago, IL 60603 Mark DePue, Director of Oral History at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, will focus this class on transcribing and editing oral history interviews. Time will be spent by DePue in a hands-on learning atmosphere with Start-Stop Transcription Devices and lots of time for discussion, especially on the editing. There will be a one-hour break with lunch provided.

Facebook is a powerhouse tool. Laurie Filipiak from Fox Valley Genealogical Society will explain how to use Facebook to make worldwide connections, style the best searches, and grow a family tree. She will also explain networking and joining and creating groups in this resource.

Saturday, August 25, 9:30 a.m. Nichols Library Community Room Caron Primas Brennan will explain why and how to implement DNA testing in genealogy research. Brennan will use case studies and examples, to illustrate how to incorporate DNA testing into family history research. This is NOT a primer on the science of DNA, although some basic information is included. The audience does not have to be knowledgeable about DNA testing to learn from this presentation. Caron Primas Brennan is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the CAGNNI Speakers Bureau, a Board Member of the Chicago Genealogical Society, and a Board Member of the Illinois State Genealogical Society.
