Seventh Annual Teen Poetry Contest

Celebrate National Poetry Month with the library's Seventh Annual Teen Poetry Contest. The contest's three divisions are: 6th grade, 7th and 8th grades, and high school. The contest will begin April 1, and the deadline for entries is 9 p.m. April 30. Winners will be announced at the end of May, and the winning poems will be posted online. Prizes from area bookstores will be awarded. Pick up an entry form at any Naperville Public Library location or enter online at naperville-lib.org/teens/

Requirements to participate: - Must be in 6th - 12th grade - Must have a desire to help - Commit to two hours a week for six weeks Sign-ups start May 13th. Check the library's website, www.naperville-lib.org, for more information!

Wii UT Tournaments (NIC)
Thursday, April 6, 4:00 pm
Community Room
Teens will use the library's Wii U to compete to win bragging rights and a Target gift card. Participants can also bring their DS to play for fun with other gamers during breaks. As time allows, there will be free play after the tournament. "Mario Kart"

Check out the library's Wii U gaming system on the big screen as the library has a variety of games, new and old, that can be played by up to four players. The regular Wii will be set up and teen participants in 6th through 12th grades are encouraged to bring their own Nintendo 3DS systems to use as extra controllers.

Author Amy Chally: Making Independence Happen (95th)

Join Amy Chally, author, motivational speaker and disability awareness consultant, as she speaks about her book "Making Independence Happen." Chally, who will be joined by her current service dog Portland, will demonstrate how he helps her in her daily routine. She also will discuss her book which was written from the perspective of her previous service dog Yazzen as well as her own. This unique and inspiring memoir gives readers a glimpse of the powerful bond that exists between a dog and his handler as well as a closer look at what it's like to live with physical differences - while dreaming, laughing and loving just like everyone else. After the presentation, Chally will be able to answer questions, and copies of her book will be available for purchase, with 15 percent of the proceeds benefiting Canine Companions for Independence. All ages welcome.

'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them' (Pg-13) (NIC)

Teen Potter fans can come together to relive the magic, and watch the movie "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." During the show, participants can create Harry Potter-themed key chains and buttons and enjoy a mug of Butterbeer!

Students can take a free full-length practice test administered by C2 Education to help prepare for the actual exam. The essay portion of the test is not included. Bring No. 2 pencils, an approved calculator and a healthy snack. This program is presented in partnership with C2 Education. *Program requires advance registration.

C2 Education Act & Sat Testing Strategies (NIC)

This seminar will address testing strategies for students preparing for the ACT and SAT. Students will learn tips and best practices to help improve their test-taking skills. This program is presented in partnership with C2 Education. *Program requires advance registration.

3-D Software & Printing for Teens (95th)

Teens can learn how to design a three-dimensional object using 3-D software as well as the process of printing it using the library's 3-D printer. *Program requires advance registration with a fee and is limited to 12 participants. This class has a non-refundable attendance fee that must be paid at the time of registration. Registration for these classes are taken at the computer lab desks. The fee for these classes is: Naperville Public Library cardholders: $10 Non-Naperville Public Library cardholders: $20

Bookworms can receive a new book or advanced reading copy by visiting the lower level teen services desk on the second to last Monday of the month for the Teen Book Giveaway. To receive the book, teens should write a book review (the good, the bad and the ugly reviews will all be accepted) for the book received. Reviewers should return the book review to the library within the next month. .

Pizza and Books: Teen Book Club (NIC)

Bookworms can discuss books they have recently read, are currently reading or even old-time favorites. Pizza will be provided to fuel the conversation. This program is for teens in 6th through 12th grades.
