Prospect Heights Book Club Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys Monday, November 5, 7:00 pm In 1945, four dissimilar teenage refugees travel thru Prussia while avoiding both German and Russian armies, hoping to board the “MV Wilhelm Gustloff” which will transport them to the safety of a West Germany refugee camp. History Revealed: Lenin and the Russian Revolution Monday, November 12, 1:00 - 2:30 pm During World War I Germany wants Russia out of the war. They ship Lenin to Russia in a sealed train on April 16, 1917 with the intent of causing more revolution in Russia and removing the war from their eastern front. Join historian John Moore and learn how this strategy changed the history of the 20th century.

Putin's Russia: Friend, Foe or Something Else Tuesday, November 13, 7:00 - 8:30 pm Since Vladimir Putin took power in Russia over 18 years ago, the relationship between the United States and this formerly sworn enemy has been in a state of flux. George W. Bush and Putin seemed to have a working relationship. Barack Obama and Putin did not. Now, under President Trump, the relationship is uncertain. This lecture, led by Dr. Whisenhunt, a professor of history at College of DuPage, will examine Putin’s background, style of rule, and overall relationship with the United States.
