TEDxProspectHeightsLibrary: Design a Better Life Thursday, July 13, 7:00 pm Join us as we watch a set of prerecorded TED Talks, all centered around the theme "Design a Better Life." We will learn how to enhance our life through meditation and stillness, and hear Steve Jobs' philosophy on how to live before you die. Adult program coordinator Terri Campbell will lead a discussion afterwards and share some of the Library's resources to further your exploration on this subject.

Design A Mini Masterpiece Friday, July 14, 1:00 - 2:30 pm, Age 13 - Adult Anyone can learn to draw or improve their drawing skills. In this class, local art teacher and illustrator Christine Thornton will teach you some "tricks" artist use when they draw. You'll choose from dozens of famous art reproductions to copy, and create your own small scale "Mini Masterpiece."

History Revealed: The Spanish American War Monday, July 17, 1:00 - 2:30 pm In 1898 three friends and political allies - Theodore Roosevelt, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge and Speaker of the House Thomas Reed are divided by different visions of war and peace and the role of the US in the coming 20th Century. History enthusiast John Moore reveals how the Spanish American War ended this debate and the friendships. Register

Riverside, Illinois: Olmstead's Arboretum Village Monday, July 24, 7:00 pm Designed in 1869 by Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux (the team who created Central Park), Riverside is one of America's first planned communities. Located just west of Chicago, the entire village has been designated a National Historical Landmark and a National Landscape. In this slide lecture, Riverside resident and art historian Jeff Mishur shares the town's story, reviews the highlights of Olmsted's design and discusses homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, R. Harold Zook, Joseph Silsbee, and other architects.
