The McHenry Library has thousands of books and DVDs to supplement your classroom and school resources! If you are planning a special assignment, we would be happy to discuss available resources and possibilities to ensure student access to materials. Checking out materials via our Classroom Checkout Program allows you to have materials for extended times and avoid overdue fines. Contact us with the topic, grade, number of students, as well as your contact info, and YS staff will gather appropriate resources and have them available for pick-up at the library. Please allow 48 hours for our librarians to put together your resources. For pickups between Saturday-Monday, requests must be placed by the end of the day (7 PM) on the prior Thursday. Teachers are responsible for lost or damaged items. Please view our updated open and curbside hours when scheduling your pickup: http://mchenrylibrary.org/index.php/service-updates *Teachers may check out materials for their own use by registering their Illinois library card at the Checkout Desk.

According to the Reading Rockets, the early years are critical to developing a lifelong love of reading. It is never too early to begin reading to your child! The tips below offer fun ways you can assist your child to become a confident reader: - Read together every day.
- Point out and describe different words and objects.
- Read with enthusiasm in your voice.
- Model how much you enjoy reading.
- Know when to stop. It's okay to put the book away if they lose interest.
- Go ahead and read your child's favorite book over and over!
- Point out print in the world around you.
