NATIONAL FRIENDS OF LIBRARIES WEEK
October 18 to October 24 is National Friends of Libraries week, and an excellent time to show your support by renewing your Friends membership, becoming a first time member or giving membership as a gift to someone close to you. Friends of the Hershey Public Library raise money that enables the library to move from good to great -- providing the resources for additional programming, much needed equipment, support for children’s summer reading, and special events throughout the year.
Edible Book Contest
Come celebrate Friends of the Library week with the 3rd annual Edible Book Contest on Saturday, October 24. 3-4 pm. For details on how to enter and to vote on your favorites, click here.
PROGRAMS AND CLASSES
Fused Glass Class
Saturday, October 3. 1-4 pm
Join Kathleen Forney, fused glass artist, for an outside class under the trees at the library. Make either a fused glass plate measuring 8 x 8 inches ($45) or a fused glass coaster measuring 4x4 inches ($22). Kathleen will help everyone cut and construct the projects from glass. She will take the projects to her kiln and fuse the glass together. After they have cooled and are ready for pick-up, she will bring them back to the library and you will be notified. Nutrition on a Budget

Join Shanna Shultz, RD, LDN to learn tricks and hacks to help increase nutrition while staying on budget. Please register online. Once your registration is confirmed, you will receive a link to Zoom. 
Open Mic in the R.G.

Join us in the R.G. (Reading Garden) for some socially distant live music. We will be hanging outside and listening to some local musicians share their talent.
 
 
Finding Other Worlds Presented by Bob Naeye
Sunday, October 18. 2-3 pm. Virtual Program.
Are we alone or do we share our solar system and galaxy with other forms of life? And how widespread are advanced civilizations with whom we could communicate? Right now we don’t have answers to these profound questions. But scientists are in hot pursuit, The technology of searching for life on other worlds has reached a level of maturity where the first definitive evidence of extraterrestrial life could come to the very near future. LEGO Club
Wednesday, October 7. 3:45 to 4:30 pm.
Budding architects and LEGO fanatics ages 6+ are welcome to join LEGO Club. (Please register for each week your child will attend.) A Zoom link will be provided along with the week's challenge via email prior to the club meeting.
Tim Burton Movie Trivia
Sunday, October 25. 2-3 pm.
Join Ms. Rita and Ms. Aly on Zoom and/or Facebook Live for Tim Burton Movie Trivia. Make sure you try and watch movies like Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Frankenweenie, and others. 
Terrarium Therapy Pumpkin Succulent Workshop
Wednesday, October 14. 6-7:30 pm.
Join us at Hershey Public Library for an outside workshop fit for a fairytale, the pumpkin succulent planter! Learn how to create a beautiful, long-lasting pumpkin succulent planter. Your experience will include a (real) 6-7 lb. "Cinderella" or "Ghost" pumpkin, a variety of succulents, soil, preserved moss, and step-by-step instruction. Cassel Vineyards' Fear of Commitment Book Group
Thursday, October 22. 6-7pm.
Join us at Cassel Vineyards of Hershey (80 Shetland Drive, Hummelstown, PA 17036) to enjoy a short story called Taste by Roald Dahl. Copies of Taste will be freely available at the front desk of the library and at Cassel Vineyards beginning September 25. Read or download a copy. Registration is not required. You must be age 21 or older to participate.

The Art of Truth: A Writing Class on Creative Nonfiction
Sundays: October 4 to November 8. 2-3 pm.
Laura English presents The Art of Truth: A Writing Class on Creative Nonfiction, an adult virtual class on the Google Meet platform (similar to Zoom). Please register on Eventbrite.com for a six week session to explore the exciting genre of creative nonfiction.
 
Intermediate to Advanced Photoshop
Saturdays: October 17 and October 24. 9:30 am to 11:00 am. (Virtual Class)
Instructor, Bryson Leidich, will teach essential tools to achieve better image processing, demonstrating the use of layers and masks, corrections to color, density and saturation, and stacking images for depth of field.
Mummy at the Mystery Mansion Presented by Talewise
Saturday, October 31 at 10:00 am. Virtual Show.
Frankie and Casey visit their uncle for his annual Halloween party, only to find out that a creepy Mummy has been scaring everyone away! Some say the house is haunted, but Frankie and Casey have a different idea. Join them on their adventure to unravel the mystery of the mummy! Along the way, you’ll explore some spooky and exciting science concepts about blackouts, mummification, and more! Please register online for this Friends Children’s Program. After registration, participants will receive a link to Zoom.
