The City of Berkeley is accepting applications to fill one vacancy on the Berkeley Public Library Board of Library Trustees (BOLT).
The deadline to apply is Monday, April 17, 2023 at 5pm.
Applicants must be Berkeley residents and should be public library champions, passionate about lifelong learning and community engagement with a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. In addition, candidates with leadership, business, management, strategic planning, marketing and/or administrative skills are encouraged to apply. |

Zamora will discuss his 2022 book, Solito: A Memoir, which retells his months-long trek across Guatemala, Mexico, and the Sonoran Desert from El Salvador as an unaccompanied nine-year old.
His story is an incredible personal tale that intersects with civil war, the impact of US foreign diplomacy during the Cold War, and migration.
This event is a partnership between the Library, Berkeley High School and Berkeley City College. |

Bonnie will discuss her book Why We Swim and share her experiences swimming in the San Francisco Bay and in local pools.
Tsui is a longtime contributor to The New York Times and the author of American Chinatown, winner of the 2010 Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature. Her latest book was a NY Times Book Review Editors’ Choice and a Time magazine and NPR Best Book of 2020; it is currently being translated into nine languages. |

For Teens & Young Adults Teen Room - 1st floor at Central Tuesday, April 18 4pm
Read and discuss friendship ode poems by contemporary poets and have fun crafting an ode to, about, and/or for your BFF! At the end of the workshop, participants will be invited to share their poems in a supportive space with their peers. Hanne will write alongside participants and share her own work in efforts to praise the beauty of the first draft. |

Chochenyo Language Restoration Medina and Trevino discuss Chochenyo, the language of the East Bay Ohlone, and how a new generation of speakers are making it part of every day life in the East Bay.
East Bay Ohlone Culinary Traditions: Continunity and Restoration
Medina and Trevino discuss the culinary tradition of the East Bay Ohlone, and why Cafe Ohlone is not just a cafe, but a “love song to Ohlone culture."
