Join us each week on Wednesdays for a virtual preschool craft demonstration. All crafts will require the following: scissors, glue (stick or liquid), tape, pen or marker. A limited amount of pre-assembled supply kits will be available for pickup at the Clemmons Branch Library (6365 James St., Clemmons, N.C. 27012).

New Horizon Book Club

Virtual through Zoom
The New Horizon Book Club has been created for homebound young adults and children with exceptional needs who like to read, discuss, and listen to short chapter books. This book club will meet through Zoom. You will be able to share a book that will bring you close, as well as give you moments to laugh over a good book. Kids and teens can pick up a DIY Crafternoon To-Go kit at the Paddison Memorial Branch Library from April 4-9. The theme is National Library Week. Meet local authors and autism advocates, R.V. and Marlene Kuser as they share the inspiration behind their most recent book "Weight a Minute! Lessons a Family Learns Thru the Gift of Autism” (2020). Set in Winston-Salem, this juvenile fiction has been praised by Dr. Cynthia Briggs of Walden University for its "meaningful discussions" about autism and how "everyone can be a hero in their own lives." Door prizes and a book signing will follow the event, which is free and open to the public.

Autism - Information and Community Resources

Drop-in to learn more about autism and community resources for those with autism and sensory processing disorders. Representatives from ABC of NC and the iCan House will be present to share information. Local authors and autism advocates, R.V. and Marlene Kuser, will also be available to talk about their books and work. This program is in honor of Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month. ABC of NC is offering parent and professional classes online, but clinic-services and lessons for preschool and most school age children through the Education Center are being offered on a regular schedule. The Autism Society of North Carolina offers a variety of resources and events for those with sensory processing differences and their families. In addition, online webinars and virtual meetings are being offered. Teens and Pre-Teens with special needs can join the Saturday Club at Brenner Children’s Hospital. This group meets the third Thursday of every month. Please visit the Brenner Children's Hospital visitation webpage to find more information about the times and requirements necessary for a visit. iClub at iCan House is accepting applications from young people, ages 8 to 14, who are interested in expanding their social skills and making new friends. iCan House also offers Real World Connections, a program for teens with the opportunity for both peer-to-peer and mentor-led interactions. This program focuses on communication, flexibility, and real world life skills among other things.
