With summer upon us and the nice weather things are certainly improving. It’s wonderful to be able to visit with vaccinated family and friends and remove your mask when outside. Circumstances are changing rapidly and will continue to change as more people are vaccinated and the threat of COVID lessens. But some things remain constant, and in the case of the pocket library, those are the age, size and space of our temporary facility.
That said, I am working towards opening the pocket library to the public. So far, we have installed better lighting, wireless access, and made other small preparations. The final obstacle is to make the library space ADA compliant. Because we are located in an historical building there are HPAC and other restrictions as to what we can do. I am working towards a solution.
I’m certain that many of you are anxious to browse our collection and see inside the old Odd Fellows Hall. But as mentioned above, the space is small – so small that half our collection is stored in another facility accessible only by staff. For this reason, the best method of using the pocket library is to place holds online and pick up items via curbside service until our new library building is completed.
Speaking of holds, have you used our new catalog yet? You'll find it is easy to place a hold and have the item delivered to the pocket library for pickup. Now you have far more choices than ever before! Now that Cranbury Public Library is an LMxAC member, the selection of print and electronic books available to you has grown tremendously. Try it and see for yourself! You can find directions here. Or call the library and make a Tech Talk appointment for one-on-one instructions.
As always, the staff is willing to fill a request for you. Just call the library at 609-722-6992 or send an email to reference@cranburypubliclibrary.org.
