African-American Genealogical Society of Cleveland Monthly Meetings
Fourth Saturday of every month, 9:30am-1pm

The African-American Genealogical Society general meeting begins at 9:30am and is followed by a genealogy topic research workshop at 10:30am:

  • March 22: "The Road to Prison: Finding Your Criminal Ancestors" presented by Angela McGhee, immediate past president of AAGHS of Chicago

Dr. Deborah Abbott will provide an introduction for beginners and experienced genealogists alike. Dr. Abbott will cover the most important steps to follow when beginning a family search and how to access the available tools and resources both online and in your local library.

Cathy Neal will discuss the most important tool in the genealogist's arsenal of resources: the U.S. Census Record. The presentation will explore the variety of data available within the census and how to understand and search census records online.

Interior Painting in an Older Home
Tuesday, February 11, 2014, 6:30-8:30pm

Have you ever wondered about the original interior of your house? Maybe you would like to redecorate while being sensitive to your home's architectural style. This program will explore the trends in historic painting and discuss different types of paint & finishes, paying specific attention to century and early 20th-century homes such as those in Shaker Heights. You will also learn about proper techniques for prepping surfaces, repairing plaster, stripping woodwork, and analyzing paint samples.
 
This presentation by the Cleveland Restoration Society is part of the Home Preservation series cosponsored by Shaker Library and the City of Shaker Heights Landmark Commission.
