Genealogy & Local History February/March 2018
Hello, Welcome to the latest Genealogy and Local History newsletter. Don't forget the Palatine Library Genealogy Group meets the first Thursday evening of most months. Please check the website events calendar to confirm the date and time or contact me for more information. It isn't necessary to register, but it's probably a good idea if there is a last minute change or cancellation. No new titles added. You can always suggest genealogy related titles for the collection. Also, is there anything you'd like me address in these newsletters? Let me know. Also note, that we have a new website and the places you're used to finding resources have changed somewhat. I put a link to the genealogy database page below. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Best of luck with your research! Arthur Krull akrull@palatinelibrary.org 847-358-5881 x 193

FamilySearch new digital film service available at the library (Finally!).
In the last letter, I said that the library could access the digital films that could be only accessed from a history center or affiliate library. We has some problems, but they should be resolved now. You should now be able to access those films at the library whether on a library computer or a personal laptop in the library. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please let me know if you have problems seeing the records. Remember, not all films have been digitized yet.

New York Genealogical and Biographical Society Launches The Record Map Search
For those with ancestors with connections to New York state, the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society has launched a new tool called Mapping the Record. The tool allows users to search the index of the The Record (New York state's largest and oldest genealogical publication) and return map based results. Keyword, title, author, location and volume can be searched. Link here. To be honest, I didn't have much luck finding any of my New York ancestors, but you might have better results. And it's a fun tool to play with.
