Location: The Glenview House, 1843 Glenview Road, Glenview. The September selection is The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty. Drawing on the rich history of the 1920s, ’30s, and beyond – from the orphan trains to Prohibition, flappers, and the onset of the Great Depression to the burgeoning movement for equal rights and new opportunities for women – Moriaty’s book illustrates how rapidly everything, from fashion and hemlines to values and attitudes, was changing at this time and what a vast difference it all made for Louise Brooks, Cora Carlisle, and others like them. Co-sponsored by the Niles Public Library. Visit facebook.com/nilesglenviewbookbites for details. Meets monthly.Page Turners — Monday, September 8, 1 PM, Community Room East. The Irresistible Henry House by Lisa Grunwald. In the middle of the twentieth century, in a home economics program at a prominent university, orphaned babies are being used to teach mothering skills to young women. For our irresistible hero Henry House, raised in these unlikely circumstances, finding real love and learning to trust will prove to be the work of a lifetime. Meets monthly. The author has solved some of the hottest debates about human origins. The book's most complex and controversial find that the ancient European hunter-gatherers predominated over the farmers and not vice versa leads him to another stunning conclusion: by chance, nearly all modern Europeans are descendants of one of seven "clan mothers" who lived at different times during the Ice Age. Meets bimonthly. BYOBB @ Your Library: Bring Your Own Book & Brown Bag — Thursday, September 18, Noon-1 PM, Multipurpose Room. Are you looking for ideas for something new to read?
