Library Closings — The Library will be closed Thursday & Friday, December 24 & 25 for the Christmas Holiday. The Library will close on Thursday, December 31 at 3 PM for the New Year’s holiday and reopen at 9 AM on Saturday, January 2. Book Drops will be locked. No materials are due on dates when the Library is closed. Special Winter Collection: Socks for Soles — Help warm the soles of our community’s neediest this winter season. Nothing is more reassuring as winter sets in than warm feet, hands, and heads. Fill the collection bin in the Library Lobby with socks, mittens, gloves, hats, and sweaters. New items appreciated; all sizes for all ages. Delivery to the Northfield Township Pantry throughout the winter season.

Make the Glenview Public Library your “go-to” place for seasonal cheer and inspiration. All Ages Toot! Toot! All Aboard! North Shore & Western Model Railroad Club — Saturday, December 5, 9 AM-4:30 PM & Sunday, December 6, 1-4:30 PM, Community Room. Enjoy the enchantment of the Community Room filled to the brim with model railroads. Great family fun. Just drop in. Art in the Library: Places of Peace & Power — Through Wednesday, January 6. Artist Krish V. Krishnan is a citizen of the world, having traveled to more than 60 countries and calling at least a dozen home. Decades of travel, painting, and writing have transformed him in ways both large and small. Learning to look past color and credo, the world has become a wonderfully small and familiar place. Krish’s hope is to take you with him to these enchanting destinations through his art. Soak in the stunning spiritual power of these incredible places of awe and imagination, so beautifully illuminated in this inspirational exhibit. Places of Peace & Power: Travel the World with Krish V. Krishnan — Tuesday, December 1, 7-8 PM, Community Room. World traveler, businessman, artist, author—all describe Krish V. Krishnan. Frosting on the Cake: Sugar & Spice Holiday Delights — Tuesday, December 8, 7-8 PM, Community Room. “More joy, less stress” is the holiday motto of Whole Foods Market. Chef Sarah Kurysz of Whole Foods Market Northbrook will join us with a no-stress holiday sweet buffet demonstration. Chef Sarah is also a professional cake decorator and will share tips for making the humblest store-bought cake a holiday masterpiece. Register here. Swing into the Season: Jingle Jazz! — Sunday, December 13, 2-3 PM, Community Room. Add some zest to your holidays with the Sueños Latin-Jazz Quintet. Bring your parents along and see if your family can beat your neighbors in a round of Mario Kart. Wii not your thing? We have PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles too. Karaoke Pajama Party (grades 2-4) — Monday, December 28, 3:30-5 PM, Youth Program Room. You don’t even need to get dressed for this program! Just wear your favorite pajamas and be ready to rock out. Join us for a night of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious fun as we sing, play, and “step in time” through this family favorite. Bring a blanket or beach towel and covered drinks. The All Things Spanish group invites both native and non-native Spanish speakers to join the fun while practicing their language skills and expanding their love for Spanish/Latino culture. A meeting may include reading a short story in Spanish, watching a Spanish film, discussing hot topics, and more. Meetings are conducted primarily in Spanish.
