Honoring Veterans — Friday, August 5, 1-2 PM, Community Room. “Thank you for your service” is easy to say. However, what many in the military have sacrificed for our nation can never be repaid. Linda Rockwell, Veterans Program Coordinator for JourneyCare, will discuss the special health issues of veterans of all ages, available benefits that may assist veteran families, and how veterans in hospice care can be helped to find peace as they face the end of life. The Landscape in ART — Through Wednesday, September 14. Multiple Artists: Sponsored by Amdur Productions. For over thirty years, Amdur Productions, a nationally acclaimed arts festival production company, has organized and directed many of the Midwest’s most prestigious juried art festivals, including the annual ART AT THE GLEN FESTIVAL. Nothing speaks of the spirit of summer more than a leisurely afternoon stroll through a community art festival. The Glenview Public Library will be privileged to showcase artists from the ART AT THE GLEN FESTIVAL (August 6-7) during the summer Art in the Library exhibit program. Soak in a contemplative selection of landscape artists in an exhibit specially curated for the Library. The mission of Amdur Productions expresses a deep belief in community art. The Glenview Library shares this vision and welcomes this talented group of artists to the Art in the Library exhibit program.

De Ruyter will host a special viewing of her documentary gem, Old Fashioned, The Story of the Wisconsin Supper Club. Holly grew up in northern Wisconsin, drinking kiddie cocktails at supper clubs. The food, drink, and unique culture of this beloved dining tradition will have you yearning for a weekend road trip. Register here. Going To Mars: For Real — Tuesday, August 9, 7-8 PM, Community Room. The movie The Martian had major input from NASA to bring realism to its depictions of living, working, and exploring on Mars. What did the movie get right…or wrong? Etta and Otto and Russell and James by Emma Hooper. One morning 83-year-old Etta begins walking the 3,200 kilometers from her home in rural Saskatchewan to Halifax. She longs to see the ocean. Her husband wakes to a note left on the kitchen table while their friend, Russell, insists on pursuing Etta in this quietly powerful story. Meets monthly. BookBites: Reading Social — Thursday, August 4, 7 PM. Location: Hackney’s on Lake, 1514 E. Lake Avenue, Glenview. Inside the O’Briens by Lisa Genova. The O’Briens are an Irish Catholic family living in Boston. Joe, the father, is a cop. Professional tutors from College Nannies and Tutors of Glenview will guide you through a practice ACT test. A great way to gain testing experience in a relaxed environment.
