He wrote the book on consolidation. It's the 50th Anniversary of consolidation. Not sure what all the hoopla is about? Historian James (Jim) Crooks, author of Jacksonville: The Consolidation Story, from Civil Rights to the Jaguars, tells why consolidation was the most significant event in the history of Jacksonville's government. You can eat cake too. The presentation is during Art Walk so don't miss the art exhibits on all four floors of the library.

Fall fun is in the air.
Double fun! Superheroes and princesses alike will love Trunk or Treating, games, crafts and more at the Brentwood Branch Library. South Mandarin Branch Library will host a costume parade—come dressed up—along with craft stations, pumpkin painting, teen green screen for cool pics, and a book sale on the same day! There's also a Stranger Things Festival at the Beaches Branch Library.

Can you stand a good scare? Brace yourself for Halloween Horror films all month long on Wednesdays, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., at the Main Library. The lineup includes classics like Pride, Prejudice and Zombies, Poltergeist, Tremors and more. See these flicks in Hicks—our auditorium on the conference floor level that boasts a big screen and comfy theater seating. Admission is free!

Published and ready for prime time?
Jax Book Fest, the literary event of the year, will be back February 2019 at the Main Library. We're accepting nonrefundable applications through Nov. 30 for authors who want to participate and meet our criteria. We've secured a super fun and famous author to headline the event! Last year more than 3,000 people came out to meet and hear local and nationally acclaimed authors, and buy books to get signed.
