Critically-acclaimed author Michael Wiley joins the West Branch Library Book Club to discuss Blue Avenue, a novel in his Daniel Turner Thriller series, set in Jacksonville. Most challenged books in 2018? Sept. 22 – 28 is Banned Books Week when libraries across the country celebrate the freedom to read. This year’s theme “Censorship Leaves Us in the Dark” urges everyone to “Keep the Light On.” The Office of Intellectual Freedom composes a list of the most challenged books each year. Check out the 2018 list, which includes several popular children's books.

Discover light in the darkness. In a stunning art exhibit that runs through Sept. 24 at the Main Library, artist River Dana captures in photographs what she describes as "no lies, no slants of truth, no opinions, no ego—nothing that can be misguided or misconstrued." She will discuss her photographs at an Artist Reception Sept. 4, from 5 – 7 p.m., during Wednesday Art Walk. Everyone is invited to attend.

Public speaking made easy. Everyone is welcome to see how Toastmasters uses a club-based structure to teach leadership and public speaking skills. Meetings have three components: organized speeches, impromptu speeches, and evaluation with constructive feedback.
