Beauty and the Beast When Belle takes her father's place as a prisoner of the Beast, she discovers that he is living under a magical enchantment. Maxx: Technical Services
"A colorful and fun classic tale that is enjoyable to watch. The movie does a good job of balancing scary scenes with cheeky humor and drama with charming music. I recommend seeing both versions of Beauty and the Beast just to compare the two. Overall it's just another good Disney remake."

ExpanseIn a future where humanity has colonized the Solar System, a conspiracy is unraveled that threatens peace across the system.
Gerry: Administration Based on the James Corey books, this Sci-Fi series is a magnificently gritty space adventure that ranges across our solar system 200 years from now. It starts with a missing person. It takes Earth, Mars and the Outer Planets to the brink of war. It hints at a secret that every government and megacorporation seeks. And only the rag tag crew of the Rociante can put things right. Season 2 is coming to Library on July 18th.

A jazz pianist and an aspiring actress meet and fall in love despite the differences in their lives
Jen: Technical Services
"If you love musicals, this one is fabulous. The music, the acting, the cinematography, the scenery... it's all amazing, and you will see why it won so may awards. The soundtrack is beautiful, (how can you go wrong with John Legend in a film?),as is the singing and instrumentation from the cast! You'll be humming "The City of Stars" theme while the credits roll."

A mysterious stranger and a notorious outlaw join forces to protect a beautiful woman from a killer working for the railroad
Nick: Technical Services
Another Sergio Leone classic that I somehow never watched until recently. This is, of course, another spaghetti western in the same vein as The Good the Bad and the Ugly or A Fist Full of Dollars, but it does not star Clint Eastwood. This time the stars are Charles Bronson, Jason Robards, and Henry Fonda, and unlike the other spaghetti westerns, there is a heroine played by Italian actress Claudia Cardinale. The movie has much of what I like about the other spaghetti westerns, in that it is a gritty portrayal of the early American West. The scenes are dark and dramatic with a haunting musical score by Ennio Morricone, and the acting is especially memorable. This is not your typical western movie, but it is a timeless classic.

Demark's blockbuster political drama, Borgen, explores the insular world of high-stakes Danish politics and the press corps that covers it in instantaneous, relentless news cycles. (Amazon) Mary: Administration
Set in contemporary Denmark, "Borgen" ("castle" in Danish) is a 3-season, 30-episode drama about Birgitte Nyborg, a member of parliament from the Moderate Party who becomes Prime Minister at the end of season one. Season two focuses on her term as a successful PM, and her subsequent loss at the polls for personal reasons. In season three, she rises again when she establishes a new (moderate) party, the New Democrats. The series also deals with Birgitte's personal losses and triumphs, involving her family and her health. A fascinating political drama set in the parliamentary system of government that I knew little about. The Danish press is a key player in the drama, also. In Danish with English subtitles that are easy to read.

Angie Tribeca: The Complete First Season"Angie Tribeca (Rashida Jones) is a 10-year veteran of LAPD’S RHCU: Really Heinous Crimes Unit. The show is a hilarious spoof of police procedurals in the spirit of The Naked Gun, and was created and executive produced by Steve and Nancy Carrell. In Season 1, Angie is a lone-wolf detective who is none too happy when partnered with J Geils (Hayes MacArthur). Together, they work together to investigate the most serious cases, from the murder of a ventriloquist to a rash of baker suicides."
Jess: Adult Services "if you are not a fan of slapstick comedy, do not check out this series. However, if you are looking for a few quick giggles this might be for you. Leslie Nielson would be proud of these actors."

Les MisérablesWhen Jean Valjean is released from prison he breaks parole to create a new life for himself and is relentlessly hounded by Inspector Javert.
Donna: Discovery Works " I love this movie for the development and intertwining of the various characters. The cast's ability to play each role with such a great depth of emotion and humanity caused me to cry almost continuously the first time I saw this movie!"

Last Word A successful, retired businesswoman decides to write her own obituary with the help of a young journalist. Karen: Circulation Department "I highly recommend the movie The Last Word. Shirley McLaine and Amanda Seyfried put humor to a normally serious subject."

Hidden Figures Follows three African American women working as human computers for NASA during the space race of the 1950s and 1960s
Julie: Children's Department "Hidden Figures is a compelling movie. I strongly recommend this inspiring true story about three African American women who worked at NASA during the 1960s. This story is also a good motivator for girls and women to continue working hard in school and college in pursuit of math and science careers. The movie also ispotlights some of the ludicrous segregation practices that took place during this time period such as separate bathrooms for African American women to use at NASA."
