Coding Camp: Programming Concepts August 14-18, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Ridge High School student volunteers will teach this week long class. Students will learn about the essentials of computer programming: data types, if/else statements, loops, functions, objects, and more. Students will learn using the languages JavaScript and ProcessingJS, whose visual nature, coupled with Khanacademy’s kid-friendly interface, makes these concepts intuitive and easy to grasp. As a final project, students will code a personalized calculator, incorporating all their new knowledge. These classes will provide students with a solid foundation in computer science and give them a head start in any future tech-related endeavors. Students must be entering grades 6-8 in the fall. Must be able to attend all 5 classes.

August 21-25, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Ridge High School student volunteers will teach this week long class on Web Design. Websites have become an integral aspect of our modern lives, but have you ever wondered what goes on behind their sleek exteriors? This course will expose the grisly skeletons of the websites we visit every day. Students will learn about the building blocks of web pages through designing and coding their own web page from scratch. They’ll begin by building the basic structure of the page using HTML tags, then add their own personal style using CSS. Finally, they’ll incorporate animations and user interactivity through JQuery, a JavaScript library. Students must be entering grades 6-8 in the fall. Must be able to attend all 5 classes. |
