Charles Norman Shay is a Penobscot elder who served as a medic in World War II at Omaha Beach, The Battle of the Bulge and other important battles.  This book recounts his trips back to Omaha Beach in 2007 and again in June of 2009 for the 65th anniversary of the Allied invasion where he was invited to sit behind the podium as President Obama, the president of France and other dignitaries paid tribute to the veterans of World War II.  The book also includes a short autobiography of Shay's life here in Maine and in Europe after the war.
