Artists' Reception Thursday, August 3rd at 5:30 - 7:30 PM Meet artists Sara Burrier and Autumn Rozario Hall whose works are featured in the current display, Little Enchantments, at the Urbandale Public Library Art Gallery. These artworks will be on display July 16 through August 30, 2017.

Bugaboos With Pees and Poos Thursday, August 17th at 6:30 PM Dana R. Fedman, CPDT-KA, will be speaking on how to housetrain puppies and dogs and fix house soiling problems in dogs. Sorry, people only, no dogs! Thursday, August 24th at 6:00 PM Come see La La Land. Two proper L.A. dreamers, a suavely charming soft-spoken jazz pianist and a brilliant vivacious playwright, while waiting for their big break, attempt to reconcile aspirations and relationship in a magical old-school romance. (PG-13/128 min.). For age 17 & up. Adult Recreational Chess Saturdays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM The library offers an adult recreational chess club for people of all skill levels, even beginners! This is your chance to learn the game, play the game, and meet other people interested in the game. Chess sets provided, or bring your own. Adult Coloring Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 AM Adult drop-in program - Join other adults who are participating in the relaxing hobby of coloring. Colored pencils, pens, and coloring sheets provided. Active Adults Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 AM Adult drop-in program - We'll provide crafts, puzzles, games, and more - all you have to do is show up and choose your activity! NEW! Teen Chess ClubEvery Sunday, 2:00 - 4:00 PM Calling young chess enthusiasts! Join other teens and young adults (grade 7 through age 21) at this drop-in chess program. All skill levels welcome! Bring your own chess set or use one of ours. Author Event for Teens Monday, August 7th at 6:30 PM Read local author, Story Smith's, latest book, Who She Was, a contemporary fiction novel based in Des Moines! Stormy will talk about her book and process, and there will be writing activities, door prizes, and even a photo booth. Registration encouraged. Please register online or by calling 515-278-3945.

Saturday, August 26th at 2:00 PM Believe it or not, you already know how to code. Come try out the basics of coding, algorithm, and logic in the real world--no wires or screens required! This family fun day will use games, paper airplanes, and even recipes to take the mystery out of this valuable life skill. Activities will be available for ages preschool through middle school. No experience required. Adults should plan on attending and participating! Please register online or by calling 515-278-3945. Mondays from 4:00 to 5:30 pm (Minecraft will not be held on Monday, Aug.7)Kids of all ages are encouraged to test their Minecraft skills on the computers in the children's area and with console games. Book Babies -Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:00 AM (No Book Babies August 1) -Saturday, August 12 & 26 at 9:30 AM Bounce, sing, shake, and play with us at this “can’t sit still” story time! We’ll have 20-30 minutes of interactive programming, followed by an unstructured playtime where children and caregivers can interact with their peers! Toddler Time Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:00 AM (No Toddler Time August 1) This short-attention span story time is perfect for toddlers. We’ll share short books, rhymes, and music for approximately 20 minutes. Family Story Time -Wednesdays at 9:30 AM and 10:15 AM (No Family Story Time August 2) -Tuesdays at 7:00 PM (No Evening Family Story Time August 1) -Saturday, August 12th & 26th at 10:30 AM Join us for 30 minutes of stories and other fun activities designed to build early literacy skills.
