Getting Your Book Ready for Print Saturday, November 8th at 10:00 am in Meeting Room A Local author Chad Michael Cox will share information on how to get your book ready for print. He will talk about cover design, interior design, paper selection, book size, and printing-on-demand vs. traditional publishers. Chad Michael Cox is an author and freelance writer proudly associated with local arts and culture organizations in Des Moines. He has over 23 years of writing experience including: web copy, newsletters, blogs, social media, and marketing materials. Chad recently released his first book, God of Another World: The Adow, in February.

Bugaboos with Pees & Poos: The Quickest, Simplest Way to Housetrain Your Dog or Fix Bad Potty Habits Thursday, November 13th at 6:00 pm in Meeting Room A If your dog acts like the world is his toilet, come to this program to learn what you need to fix this behavior now. Giant dogs, medium-size dogs, small dogs and even tiny dogs can learn to go where you want them to, even if they are no longer puppies! Presented by Dana Fedman, CPDT-KA, a dog trainer and dog behavior counselor since 1998. She is the owner of Pupstart Family Dog Training in Des Moines.

The Return of Iowa’s Bald Eagles Monday, November 17th at 7:00 pm in the ICN RoomJoin Urbandale author/photographer Ty Smedes for a slide presentation and lecture which will reveal many incredible discoveries about Bald Eagles and how they go about their everyday lives here in Iowa! Ty’s presentation will also reveal many highlights of the 2nd edition printing of The Return of Iowa’s Bald Eagles, including updated nesting and wintering statistics, Bald Eagle rehabilitator updates, more than 70 new photos, and exciting new action sequences. The book will be available for sale and can be signed by the author. Many of the author’s framed prints will also be on display in the Urbandale Public Library Art Gallery.

Yoga for Teens Wednesday, November 5th at 7:00 pm in the Story Room Tweens and teens age 12-17, this is your chance to experience yoga! Urbandale Parks and Rec will add teen yoga to its programming in January. Join yoga instructor, Mary Lasky, to see what the class is all about. You might find inner peace, or at the least, a new way to stay active this winter. To register call 331-4490.
Teen Advisory Board (TAB) Tuesday, November 11th at 5:30 pm in Chapters Cafe Calling all teens ages 13-17! Join us for pizza and give your input on books, video games, music, programs, resources, and teen space.
Teen Book Club Wednesday, November 12th at 6:30 pm in the Urbandale Library ICN Room Teens age 13 and up are invited to join the teen book club. Book club meets once a month and participants receive a free copy of the book. This month’s book discussion title is Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys.

Minecraft Mania Mondays – November 3, 10, 17 from 4:00 – 5:30 pm in the Youth Services Area Kids age 8 to 12 years are encouraged to test their Minecraft skills on the Youth Services computers and with console games. No registration.
Magic Tree House Book Club Monday, November 17th at 7:00 pm in Meeting Room B Kids age 6 to 9 years old who love the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne will love the activities and craft based on the Viking Ships at Sunrise book. Please register each month by calling 331-4490.
Reading Pals Thursday, November 20th from 7:00 – 8:00 pm in the Story Room Kids age 6 and up can come to the library and read to a therapy dog! Reading Pals encourages children to read, by providing a non-judgmental listener in the form of a furry friend. No registration.
LEGO Club Friday, November 21st from 4:00 – 5:00 pm in the Story Room Kids, age 5 and up, join other LEGO enthusiasts and create unique LEGO designs. LEGOs and fun provided. No registration.

Science Sleuths Friday, November 14th at 10:30 am in the Story Room Science Sleuths is a thirty-minute hands-on science program designed for kids ages 3 to 6. Small sleuths, accompanied by their parents, will explore the properties of sound with a story, craft and other activities. Please register each month by calling 331-4490.

Mothers and Others Mondays & Tuesdays from 10:30 – 11:30 am Caregivers of children age infant to 36 months are invited to drop in and socialize, while your babies explore the board books, blocks, balls and other toys available in the Story Room. No registration.
