YOUTH Second Session runs July 6th – August 2ndReading logs may be picked up anytime! - QUARKS (Age 12 months to 2 years)
This is a simple reading program for babies and toddlers who enjoy being read to. - PROTONS (Age 3 to 6 years)
Parents are encouraged to keep track of the days they read-aloud to their children. - NEUTRONS (Age 7 to 11 years)
This program is for children who are ready for longer chapter books. Keep track of the number of days per week you read to win prizes. - ELECTRONS (Age 12 to 17 years)
Tweens and teens keep track of the days you read each week to win prizes. Be sure to check out all of our upcoming free summer reading activities and events listed below!

RONALD MCDONALD – RESCHEDULED!!! Tuesday, July 1st at 2:30 pm in Meeting Room A/B Always a crowd-pleaser, Ronald McDonald will present a “Fizz, Bang, Boom” show of comedy and magic.
TOUCH-A-TRUCK Tuesday, July 8th from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the library parking lot Check out, sit in, and touch City of Urbandale trucks and other vehicles.

BEN'S BUBBLE SHOW Thursday, July 10th at 7:00 pm in Meeting Room A/B Experience Ben’s beautiful, humorous, and mind-boggling soap bubble sculptures. Bubbles within bubbles, smoke bubbles, spinning belt bubbles, and geometric shaped bubbles are all part of the show.

BUGS ON A RUG - ISU INSECT ZOO Tuesday, July 15th at 10:30 am in Meeting Room A/B Have a “bugtastic” time with the ISU Insect Zoo! Kids age 7 and up can meet an entomology student and get some hands-on time with insects and other arthropods. Space is limited so be sure to register by Friday, July 11th – please call 331-4490.

JESTER PUPPETS WEIRD SCIENCE Thursday, July 17th at 7:00 pm in Meeting Room A/B Travel through time to meet Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton and other pioneers of science in this high-energy interactive show.
POOL PARTY Friday, July 18th from 10:00 to 11:30 am at the Urbandale Public Swimming Pool Summer reading participants are invited to join us for a free pool party!
MAGIC TREE HOUSE Monday, July 21st at 7:00 pm and Thursday, July 24th at 10:30 am Kids age 6 to 9 who love the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne can explore fascinating topics with fun activities and a craft. This month, the Magic Tree House Club will explore Polar Bears Past Bedtime. Please register for one session each month by calling 331-4490.
FAMILY DANCE PARTY Thursday, July 24th from 7:00 to 8:00 pm in Meeting Room A/B Put on your boogie shoes and join D.J. Ronny Johnson for some family fun! We’ll provide the music, balloons and refreshments. You provide the moves.
EVERYDAY SCIENCE Monday, July 28th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Families are invited to drop by the library to try out some of our everyday science experiments. We’ll use common items to make uncommon results.

MINECRAFTEvery Monday from 3:30 – 5:00 pm in the Youth Services areaKids age 8-12 years old can test their Minecraft skills on computers and consoles. TWEEN SUMMER PARTYWednesday, July 16th from 6:30 to 8:00 pmKids age 10 to 12, come check out the activities, music, food and fun that the library teen volunteers are planning for you. TEEN BOOK CLUBWednesday, July 23rd from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm in Meeting Room AHigh school students age 14 and up are invited to read and discuss this month’s book, Enclave by Ann Aguirre. BOOKED FOR DINNERTuesday, July 8th at 6:00 pm in Chapters Cafe An exciting book club that mixes good food, good books, and good conversation! Booked for Dinner meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 6 - 7:00 PM in Chapter’s Cafe. This month we'll be discussing The Round House by Louise Erdrich. TUESDAY NIGHT MOVIE Tuesday, July 22nd at 6:00 pmThis month we’ll check out a 1953 Academy Award nominated comedy/drama/musical! The movie is about a silent film production company and cast and their difficult transition to sound. (Not rated/103 min.). Free popcorn! *The Tuesday Night Movie is for age 17 & up only. Doors open at 5:30pm.
