SPRING BREAK PROGRAMS! It's Willy Wonka Week at the library! From an interactive Candy Land game to the science of candy, it will be a week of all things sweet. Kids who attend a library program can earn a golden ticket and a prize.
Family Story Times - It's Not Easy Being Green Families with children ages 2 years and up can listen to green stories, do activities and make a craft during this 30-minute program. No registration. - Saturday, March 14th at 10:30 am in the Story Room

Life-Size Candy Land Game Tuesday, March 17th from 10:00 - 10:45 am in Meeting Room A/B Families with kids age 3 years and up can drop by the library and participate in some candy land games and make a craft. No registration. Kids in Harmony - Family Music Time Wednesday, March 18th from 10:00 - 10:30 am in Meeting Room A/B Families with children age 1 to 6 years are invited to join a music therapist from Kids in Harmony for a 30-minute, interactive music class. No registration. The Science of Candy Thursday, March 19th from 10:00 - 10:45 am in Meeting Room A/B
Kids age 8 to 11 years are invited to explore the properties of a variety of sweet treats. Participants will discover why some candies are sour, separate out and analyze the color of candies, mix and make fudge in a bag, and see how far they can catapult candy corn. Space is limited. Story Time Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 am and 10:15 am in the Story Room Features stories, songs and activities and is open to youngsters ages 3 – 6. Sessions last about 30 minutes. No registration. Toddler Time
Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:00 am in the Story Room Toddler Time is for two year old children with an adult. The twenty minute session is filled with stories, music and movement. No registration. Book Babies Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:30 am in the Story Room An introduction to literacy for children age 12 – 24 months with an adult. Participate in simple stories, activities and songs. Programs last approximately 20 minutes. No registration. Mothers and Others Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:30 - 11:30 am in the Story Room Caregivers of children age infant to 36 months are invited to drop in and socialize, while your babies explore the board books, blocks, balls and other toys available in the Story Room. No registration. Family Story Time Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm in the Story Room Youngsters age two and up may come in their pajamas, if you like, for stories and fun. No registration. Science Sleuths Friday, March 13th at 10:30 am in the Story Room Science Sleuths is a thirty-minute hands-on science program designed for kids age 3 – 6. Small sleuths, accompanied by their parents, will explore the properties of color. Kids will listen to a story, make a craft and enjoy other activities. Minecraft Mania Mondays (March 2, 9,16, 23, 30) from 4:00 - 5:30 pm in the Youth Services Area Kids age 8 to 12 years are encouraged to test their Minecraft skills on the Youth Services computers and with console games. No registration. Reading Pals Thursday, March 19th from 7:00 - 8:00 pm in the Story Room Reading Pals encourages children to read, by providing a non-judgmental listener in the form of a furry friend. No registration Magic Tree House Book Club Monday, March 23rd from 7:00 - 7:45 pm in Meeting Room B Kids age 6 to 9 years old, who love the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne, will love the activities and craft based on the Tigers at Twilight book. Register each month by calling 331-4490. LEGO Club Friday, March 27th from 4:00 - 5:00 pm in the Story Room Kids, age 5 and up, join other LEGO enthusiasts and create unique LEGO designs. LEGOs and fun provided. No registration.

Hour of Code for Teens Tuesday, March 10th from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the ICN Classroom I n honor of Teen Tech Week (March 8-14) the Urbandale Public Library along with Drake University and the South Central STEM Hub at Drake University are presenting "Hour of Code". This fun, interactive session on coding will be presented by Drake University students and teachers to teens ages 13-18. The "Hour of Code" program is the first step for teens on a journey to learn more about how technology works and how to create software applications. Space is limited. Teen Knitting Tuesday, March 17th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the ICN Classroom Learn to knit, check out some new knitting projects, or just work on your own special project - teen knitters of all skill levels (even beginners!) are welcome to come join the fun. Ireland: Traditions of the Emerald Isle Thursday, March 19th from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the Meeting Room B This presentation will include Irish music, Irish food samples, and information on Irish sayings and symbols such as the leprechaun, shamrock, and Celtic knots and crosses. Write an Irish limerick and learn some Irish trivia; perhaps you will decide a trip to Ireland is in your future. Children age 12 and up accompanied by an adult may attend. Movie Night Thursday, March 26th at 6:00 pm in the ICN Classroom This month we’ll be showing a 2014 adventure/comedy/drama about the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous hotel from the fictional Republic of Zubrowka between the first and second World Wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend.(R/100 min). Recommended for ages 17 & up. Trout Fishing 101 Sunday, March 29th from 1:30 - 3:30 pm in Meeting Room A/B This is a 2-hour introductory class that will provide you with some basic fly fishing instruction, hands-on fly-tying and casting, information on great places to fish, and the conservation of trout streams here in Iowa. The class is brought to you by the North Bear Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Children age 12 and up accompanied by an adult may attend.
