Iowa Icons - Mildred Augustine Thursday, July 7th at 6:30 PM in Meeting Room A This month's program will feature Mildred Augustine, an American journalist and author of children's books. She is best remembered for writing some of the earliest Nancy Drew mysteries and for creating the detective's adventurous personality. Sponsored by Humanities Iowa and presented by Barbara Lounsberry. Honeybee BasicsTuesday, July 26th at 6:30 PM in Meeting Room A Learn about the benefits and purpose of honeybees in this short 1 hour class. Presenter Carly Vannoy will also talk about the distinctive characteristics of honeybees from other stinging insects, the life cycles and stages of development in honeybees, the roles and separate castes of the queen, worker, and drone, and more! Movie Night Thursday, July 28th at 6:00 PM in the ICN Classroom This month we'll be showing a 2004 comedy about a pro tennis player who has lost his ambition and fallen in rank to 119. Fortunately for him, he meets a young player on the women's circuit who helps him recapture his focus (PG-13/98 min.) Recommended for ages 17 & up. Teen Book Club (TBC) Monday, July 11th at 6:30 PM in the Conference Room Teens ages 13 and up are invited to join the TBC for snacks and discussion. TBC meets the second Monday of every month. Participants receive a free copy of MILA 2.0 by Debra Driza. Teens can also participate in the book discussions through Edmodo. Questions? Email Kschnoebelen@urbandale.org. Beginning Yoga Wednesday, July 13th at 7:00 PM in Meeting Room A/B Yoga is a great way to relax and destress. If you are 13 years or older, join Mary Laskey, RYT, of Santosha Yoga and practice breathing exercises, basic yoga postures, and guided relaxation. Mats provided or you are welcome to sit in a chair. Beginning Zumba Wednesday, July 20th at 7:00 PM in Meeting Room A/B Take the "work" out of workout by joining Ildiko Timmerman for a fun Zumba Fitness party. The Zumba class is an introductory session for anyone 13 years or older. Grab a friend, your Dad or your Grandma and get moving to the Zumba beat!

Chess Club Wednesdays (July 6, 13, 20, & 27) from 4:00 to 5:00 PM Kids age 8 and up can get some hands-on, chess experience. Whether you’re a newbie, an intermediate or a seasoned player, drop by the Library to share your interest in the game of chess. Minecraft Mania Mondays (July 11, 18, & 25) from 4:00 to 5:30 pm Kids age 8 to 12 years are encouraged to test their Minecraft skills on the Youth Services computers and with console games. No registration. Magic Tree House Monday, July 18th at 7:00 PM & Thursday, July 21st at 10:30 AM Kids age 6 to 9 years old who love the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne can explore fascinating topics with fun activities and a craft. This month we will investigate Night of the New Magicians. Please register for one session by calling 515-278-3945. LEGO Club Friday, July 22nd from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Story Room Kids age 5 and up can join other LEGO enthusiasts and create unique LEGO designs. LEGOs and fun provided. No registration.

No Story Times July 5 - 8, 2016 Toddler Time
Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:00 AM Toddler Time is for two year old children with an adult. The twenty minute session is filled with stories, music and movement. No registration. Book Babies Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:30 AM An introduction to literacy for children age 12 – 24 months with an adult. Participate in simple stories, activities and songs. Programs last approximately 20 minutes. No registration. Evening Family Story Time Tuesday evenings (July 12, 19, & 26) at 7:00 PM Youngsters age two and up may come in their pajamas, if you like, for stories and fun. No registration. Family Story Time Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 AM and 10:15 AM Features stories, songs, and activities and is open to youngsters ages 2 and up. Sessions last about 30 minutes. No registration.
