Saturday, April 5, 2014 Tickets – $50
($30 tax deductible) Join us for Dinner with the Authors and celebrate the first year anniversary of the Urbandale Public Library Art Gallery, a unique resource in a unique community. Dinner with the Authors is a rare opportunity to spend the evening with literary icons Jane Austen, Ernest Hemingway, Agatha Christie, and Mark Twain. Performances by well-known local actors will bring to life the extraordinary talent and distinctive personalities of these beloved authors. Performances will be interspersed within a catered three-course dinner. Tickets are $50, $30 of which is a tax deductible contribution to the Gallery. Tickets may be purchased until April 3 at the Library.Don’t leave us guessing who’s coming to dinner! Join us for an evening of fun, fine food, and exceptional entertainment on Saturday, April 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Library.

Armchair Travels Tuesday, April 15 at 6:00 pm in Chapter’s Café Do you love traveling and hearing about other people’s travels? If so, join us for this month’s Armchair Travels to learn all about Croatia and Slovenia. Our presenter will share travel highlights, including slides and commentary about Lake Bled, the Plitvice Lakes area, and the jewel city of the Adriatic, Dubrovnik. *Armchair Travels meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.

Tuesday Night Movie April 22 at 6:00 pm in the ICN Room Join us for an Academy Award winning drama from this year about a medical engineer and an astronaut who work together to survive after a catastrophe destroys their shuttle and leaves them adrift in orbit. (Rated PG-13/91 min.). Free popcorn will be served. *The Tuesday Night Movie is for age 17 & up only. Doors open at 5:30pm.

Teen Book GroupWednesday, April 9 at 6:30 pm in the Conference RoomTeen Book Group meets at two times in two different venues, every six weeks. High School students age 14 and older will meet at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, April 9 in the Urbandale High School Media Center. Teen Craft ClubWednesday, April 16 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in Meeting Room ATweens and teens, age 11 to 17 are invited to learn the ins and outs of drawing caricatures. Teen Advisory Board (TAB)Wednesday, April 23 at 5:30 pm in Chapter’s CaféCalling all teens! Minecraft ManiaMondays - April 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 3:30 to 5:00 pm in the Youth Services AreaKids age 8 to 12 are encouraged to test their Minecraft skills on the Youth Services computers and with console games. Pick up your copy of The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken at the library circulation desk. Then enjoy lunch, a lively discussion, and fun activities with other bibliophiles. Science SleuthsFriday, April 11 at 10:30 am in the Youth Services AreaScience Sleuths is a thirty-minute, hands-on science program designed for kids age 3 – 6 (accompanied by their parents). Magic Tree HouseMonday, April 28 at 7:00 pm in Meeting Room BKids age 6 to 9 who love the Ghost Town at Sundown book by Mary Pope Osborne can explore the Wild West with fun activities and a craft.
