Iowa Watercolor Society Fall Miniature Exhibit Opening Reception Saturday, November 18th, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM In the Art Gallery and Meeting Room A The Miniature Exhibit is a non-juried exhibit and an opportunity for Society members to show paintings no larger than 9x12 inches (including the frame). On display in the Library's Art Gallery from November 16, 2017 - January 15, 2018.

WW I: The Great War - An American Experience Film Drawing on the latest scholarship, including unpublished diaries, memoirs and letters, The Great War, tells the rich and complex story of World War I through the voices of nurses, journalists, aviators and the American troops who came to be know as 'doughboys'. This 3-part series was produced for American Experience and shown on PBS earlier this year. Afternoon showings: 2:00 - 4:00 PM, ICN Room Part 1: Sunday, November 5 Part 2: Sunday, November 12 Part 3: Sunday, November 19 Evening showings: 6:00 - 8:00 PM, ICN Room Part 1: Monday, November 6 Part 2: Tuesday, November 7 Part 3: Wednesday, November 8 No registration. World War I Camp Dodge Thursday, November 9th at 6:30 PM This 50-minute slideshow presentation will cover the role of Camp Dodge as the 88th Infantry Division training center during World War I. The 5,200 acre facility of 1,402 buildings reached a peak garrison of 46,000 soldiers during July 1918. By the end of the war, 111,000 personnel entered the U.S. Army at the largest military base in Iowa's history. Presented by Michael Vogt, Curator, Iowa Gold Star Military Museum There is no charge to attend, no registration. Adult Recreational Chess Saturdays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM The library offers an adult recreational chess club for people of all skill levels, even beginners! This is your chance to learn the game, play the game, and meet other people interested in the game. Chess sets provided, or bring your own.

Teen Book Club (TBC) Monday, November 13th at 6:30 PM Teens ages 13 and up are invited to join the TBC for snacks and discussion of Romeo and/or Juliet by Ryan North. Teen Advisory Group (TAG)Monday, November 13th at 7:30 PM It's your library, tell us what you want us to do! Teen Advisory Group will help decide on events, activities, and even materials. Let us know what you think by coming to the meeting! All 7th through 12th graders are welcome! Teen WriteUP Monday, November 20th at 6:00 PM Are you an aspiring writer? This is the group for you! Hear from a professional, test your material on your peers, brainstorm, or just practice your craft. You are welcome to bring some of your writing to share. This month is National Novel Writing Month. Teen Tech Drop-In Wednesday, November 29th from 4:00 - 6:00 PM Youth age 12 - 17, are invited to drop in for Sphero challenges and to try out 3-D printing pens. We'll also have video games and Scratch Coding. Experts will be on hand to share tips.

Storybooks with Officer Brooks Tuesday, November 7th at 7:00 PM Family Storytime has a special guest! Meet Urbandale Police Officer Anthony Brooks and share some of his favorite stories! Age: 4+ Around the Library for Homeschool Students Tuesday, November 14th at 1:00 PM Our homeschool families will be exploring the library this month! We'll learn about the Dewey Decimal System, how to search for materials, and get an introduction to our databases. Age: 5-12, siblings welcome. After-School Art Friday, November 17th at 4:00 PM Get hands-on with art exploration. 30-minute workshop will unleash your creativity and inspire the artist in everyone with process-driven art projects! We'll be moving, playing, and working as a group to create something amazing. Adults should plan on staying with participants ages 8 and under! Target Audience: School age, siblings welcome. Handprint Calendars Saturday, November 18th at 2:00 PM Children will create a wonderful keepsake with 12 different handprint designs. Once finished, you'll have a calendar for the year 2018-perfect as a gift for someone special. Leave them to dry, and we'll assemble the calendars for you. Age: 2-7 DINOvember Wednesday, November 22nd at 3:00 PM Your little paleontologist will get down and dirty with history's biggest reptiles as we learn about dinosaurs and the people who study them! We'll begin with a group story and activity, and then move on to exploration through experiments, crafts, and activities. Age: 5-10 Minecraft Mondays, November 6, 13, 20, 27 from 4:00 - 5:30 PM Kids of all ages are encouraged to test their Minecraft skills on the computers in the children's area and with console games. No registration.

Book Babies Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:00 AM Bounce, sing, shake, and play with us at this "can't sit still" story time! We'll have 20-30 minutes of interactive programming, followed by an unstructured playtime where children and caregivers can interact with their peers!Toddler Time Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:00 AM This short-attention span story time is perfect for toddlers. We’ll share short books, rhymes, and music. This 20-30 minute story time incorporates movement and music and understands that sitting still is tricky sometimes! Family Story Time Wednesdays at 9:30 AM and 10:15 AM Tuesdays at 7:00 PM
