2015 Summer Reading Clubs Read and win prizes! Kids can participate in “Every Hero Has a Story” First Session: Sunday, May 31 - Saturday, June 27 Second Session: Sunday, June 28 - Saturday July 25 *Reading Logs may be picked up beginning Tuesday, May 26. - TINY TITANS – (Age 12 months to 2 years)
- INCREDIBLES – (3 to 6 years)
- JUSTICE LEAGUE – (Age 7 to 11 years)
- AVENGERS – (Age 12 to 18 years)
Adults are invited to “Escape the Ordinary” May 31 - July 25 Reading packets can be picked up at any service desk beginning Sunday, May 31.

Story Time Wednesday (May 6, 13) and Thursday (May 7, 14) at 9:30 am and 10:15 am Features stories, songs and activities and is open to youngsters ages 3 – 6. Sessions last about 30 minutes. No registration. |

Book Babies Monday (May 4,11) Tuesday (May 5, 12) and Friday (May 1, 8) at 9:30 am An introduction to literacy for children age 12 – 24 months with an adult. Participate in simple stories, activities and songs. Programs last approximately 20 minutes. No registration. Mothers and Others Monday (May 4, 11) and Tuesday (May 5, 12) from 10:30 to 11:30 am Caregivers of children age infant to 36 months are invited to drop in and socialize, while your babies explore the board books, blocks, balls and other toys available in the Story Room. No registration. Family Story Time Tuesday evenings (May 5, 12) at 7:00 pm Youngsters age two and up may come in their pajamas, if you like, for stories and fun. No registration. Science Sleuths Friday, May 8th at 10:30 am Science Sleuths is a thirty-minute hands-on science program designed for kids age 3 – 6. Small sleuths, accompanied by their parents, will explore the science of soil and plants. Kids will listen to a story, make a craft and enjoy other activities. Please register each month by calling 278-3945.

LEGO Club Friday, May 29th from 4:00 to 5:00 pm in the Story Room Kids, age 5 and up, join other LEGO enthusiasts and create unique LEGO designs. LEGOs and fun provided. No registration.

Teen Book Club Wednesday, May 13th at 6:30 pm in the Conference Room Teens ages 13 and up are invited to join the teen book club. Book club meets once a month and participants receive a free copy of the book. This month’s book discussion title is Reality Boy by A. S. King. Stop by the Youth Services Desk to pick up your copy. Teen Knitting Class Tuesday, May 19th at 5:30 pm in the ICN Room Learn to knit, check out some new knitting projects, or just work on your own special project - teen knitters of all skill levels (even beginners!) are welcome to come join the fun. Class size will be kept small so teens have a chance to work one-on-one with instructors. Knitting needles and yarn will be provided. Please call 278-3945 or email trohe@urbandale.org to register.

Iowa's Cultural Kaleidoscope Thursday, May 14th at 6:30 pm in Meeting Room A Presented by Phillip E. Webber, Professor emeritus in the Division of Cross-Cultural Studies at Central College in Pella, this program will feature a rich variety of photographic images that suggest some of the major historical settlement patterns in Iowa, and current trends in new immigration from areas as diverse as Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Program made possible by Humanities Iowa. Iowa's Hidden Treasures Thursday, May 21st at 6:30 pm in Meeting Room A Presented by Dan Kaercher, retired founding editor-in-chief of Midwest Living magazine and Iowa Public Television host. Dan spent years traveling in almost every one of Iowa’s 99 counties in search of close-to-home attractions and getaways to share with his loyal readers and viewers. You’ll be amazed to learn what surprises you don’t know await right in your own backyard-Iowa. Movie Night Thursday, May 28th at 6:00 pm in the ICN Room This month we’ll be showing a 2015 Action/Comedy. Juggling angry Russians, the British Mi5, and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai races to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain a code that leads to lost Nazi gold. (R-107 min). Recommended for ages 17 & up.
