Art Gallery Reception Sunday, April 8th 1:30 - 3:00 PM in the Urbandale Library Art Gallery Visit with artist Pam Douglas and enjoy her pastel and charcoal artwork. Refreshments served. Life Stories Sunday, April 15th at 1:30 PM Transform your memories into a collection of short memoirs to share now and pass on to future generations. We'll also learn about various forms of memoirs and creative ways to share your work, including six-word memoirs, word cloud memoirs, and oral histories. Each "Life Stories" session will focus on a theme to help trigger memories and spark ideas. Participants will talk about their memories related to the theme. Ideas generated in class will be fine-tuned at home and read aloud, if desired, at the next session. No previous writing experience is needed to participate and writers of all skill levels are welcome. The focus will be on the value of writing down your memories, not your writing style! Join us for one session or all four! Sessions will be held the 3rd Sunday afternoon - February through May. NOTE: Each session is 90 minutes in length. Registration required. Investment Vocabulary Thursday, April 19th at 6:30 PM Money Smart Week helps consumers manage their personal finances better. This program was developed by BetterInvesting at the suggestion of Money Smart Week. Investment vocabulary and definitions will be discussed at the program. You will leave with a better understanding of common investment terms, such as; equity, index, profit margin, and many more. About the Presenter: Charlotte Hurley is a Volunteer/Director of the Heartland Chapter of BetterInvesting, a non-profit organization with 65 years of service to individual investors and investment clubs. Adult Recreational Chess Saturdays from 1:00 to 4:00 PM (NO Chess on April 21) The library offers an adult recreational chess club for people of all skill levels, even beginners! This is your chance to learn the game, play the game, and meet other people interested in the game. Chess sets provided, or bring your own. Adult Book Clubs Booked for Dinner meets in Meeting Room A on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM. On the Same Page meets in the Library Conference Room on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM. Brown Bag meets in Meeting Room A on the last Tuesday & Thursday of each month at 12:00 Noon.

Game Design From Scratch Wednesdays, April 11th - May 30 at 5:30 PM In this 8-week course, kids ages 10-14 will learn the basics of computer science as they work with Scratch coding and explore video game design! Tuesday, April 3rd & 17th from 4:00 - 5:00 PM Minecraft is held the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month. Kids of all ages are encouraged to test their Minecraft skills on the Youth Services computers and with console games. Adults should plan on attending with and assisting children age 9 and under. Ages 6-17. No registration. Extreme LEGO Challenge Thursday, April 5th at 6:00 PM Build LEGO structures to brave the elements of air, fire, and water! Create LEGO structures that will withstand a drop or a dip in the water. Build a LEGO volcano and even make it erupt! Target Audience: Ages 4-12. Instrument Petting Zoo Thursday, April 5th at 11:00 AM & 11:45 PM (2 sessions) The Des Moines Symphony Academy is offering an Instrument Petting Zoo! Junior musicians will meet the violin and cello during a presentation on stringed instruments, followed by a chance to get hands-on with the instruments! There will be no Family Story Time on Tuesday evening, April 24. Book Babies -Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:00 AM -Saturday, April 7th at 9:30 AM Bounce, sing, shake, and play with us at this “can’t sit still” story time! We’ll have 20-30 minutes of interactive programming, followed by an unstructured playtime where children and caregivers can interact with their peers! Toddler Time Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:00 AM This short-attention span story time is perfect for toddlers. We’ll share short books, rhymes, and music. This 20-30 minute story time incorporates movement and music and understands that sitting still is tricky sometimes! Family Story Time -Wednesdays at 9:30 AM and 10:15 AM -Tuesdays at 7:00 PM (No Family Story Time Tuesday, April 24) -Saturday, April 7 at 10:30 AM Join us for fun and interactive stories to keep the whole family entertained and engaged. The program will last approximately 30 minutes and will include slightly longer stories, singing, and playing!
