New Preschool Events - Munchkin Meetup - Thursday, January 5th & 19th 3:00-4:00 PM
This drop-in program will include a number of stations for preschool age kids with a range of abilities including toys, sensory and active play, art, and even a little bit of science. It’s a great chance to socialize for tots and their grownups!
- STEAM Station - Monday, January 30th 6:00-7:00 PM
Bring your curious preschoolers to STEAM Station where they can explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art, and math! This month we’ll be exploring water’s many forms with activities and experiments! Please register online or by calling 278-3945.
New School-Age Events - Crazy 8s - Tuesdays 5:00-5:30 PM
Crazy 8s is a new after-school math club for 1st and 2nd graders designed to get them fired up about math. Every week Crazy 8ers build stuff, run and jump, make music, make a mess…all while bonding with new friends over math. Registration required each week - register online or call 278-3945.
- Flight School - Thursday, January 12th 6:00-7:00 PM
The sky’s the limit at this hands-on engineering program for the whole family! Take your paper airplane game to the next level, try your hand at straw rockets, and don’t forget your parachute! We’ll talk about the mechanics of flight and get some hands-on practice together! This program is aimed at grades 1-6, but siblings are welcome!

Need something to do on your day off? Come and play with dough! Follow our special recipes to make your own—3 different ways! This program is open to all ages. Please register online or by calling 278-3945. - Family Science Lab - Saturday, January 28th 2:00-3:00 PM
Mad about Science? Everybody’s a scientist at this hands-on STEAM exploration! Create exciting concoctions and perform experiments along with us. Healthy Meals in a Hurry Thursday, January 19th at 6:30 PM Join us for the first in our year-long resolution solutions series by learning how to make healthy meals in a hurry! Mary Krisco will teach you how to prepare main dishes ahead of time that can be frozen for ready-to-use convenience and enjoyment. Discuss tips to modify recipes to reduce sodium and fat. Presented by the Human Sciences Extension and Outreach through Polk County Extension. Movie Night Thursday, January 26th at 6:00 PM Come see Winter’s Bone, the 2010 Oscar nominated drama about an unflinching Ozark Mountain girl who hacks through dangerous social terrain as she hunts down her drug-dealing father while trying to keep her family intact. (R/100 min.). For age 17 & up. Adult Recreational Chess Saturday, January 7th & 21st from 9:30 to 11:30 AM The library is now offering an adult recreational chess club for people of all skill levels, even beginners! This is your chance to learn the game, play the game, and meet other people interested in the game. Chess sets provided, or bring your own. Adult Coloring Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 AM Adult drop-in program - Join other adults who are participating in the relaxing hobby of coloring. Colored pencils, pens, and coloring sheets provided. Active Adults Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 AM Adult drop-in program - We'll provide crafts, puzzles, games, and more - all you have to do is show up and choose your activity! Zombie ApocalypseSaturday, January 14th from 7:00-9:00 PMThis is a TEEN LOCK-IN event. Do you have what it takes to survive the zombie apocalypse? Come find out! Set up camp, learn some survival skills, and find out if you have what it takes to face the undead and come out on top! GRADES 7-12 ONLY! Registration is required - go online or call 278-3945. A signed parental consent form is also required to participate.

Game On! (previously Youth Chess Club) Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:00 PM Kids age 8 and up are invited to get their game-on! We’ll have cards, board games, and chess for players of all skill levels! Come learn a new game, teach us one of your favorites, and hang out together! Whether you’re a newbie, an intermediate or a seasoned player, drop by the library! Minecraft Mania Mondays from 4:00 to 5:30 pm Kids of all ages are encouraged to test their Minecraft skills on the computers in the children's area and with console games. No registration. LEGO Club Friday, January 27th from 4:00 to 5:00 pm Kids age 5 and up, join other LEGO enthusiasts and create unique LEGO designs. LEGOs and fun provided. No registration.

Science Sleuths NEW DAY - Thursday, January 19th at 11:00 AM This 30 minute program is designed for preschool age children. Small sleuths accompanied by an adult will explore their sense of touch. Aspiring Artists NEW DAY - Thursday, January 26th at 11:00 AM Preschool children, accompanied by their adult, can explore art with an art activity and craft inspired by Alexander Calder. Book Babies Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays at 9:00 AM & on Saturday, January 14th and 28th at 9:30 AM Bounce, sing, shake, and play with us at this “can’t sit still” story time! We’ll have 20-30 minutes of interactive programming, followed by an unstructured playtime where children and caregivers can interact with their peers! Toddler TimeMondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays at 10:00 AM This short-attention span story time is perfect for toddlers. We’ll share short books, rhymes, and music in the first thirty minutes, followed by a chance to stay and play! Evening Family Story Time Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM Children of all ages may come in their pajamas, if you like, for stories and fun. Family Story Time Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 AM and 10:15 AM & on Saturday, January 14th and 28th at 10:30 AM Features stories, songs, and activities and is open to all ages. Sessions last about 30 minutes.
