Iowa Icons - Mamie Eisenhower Thursday, October 6th at 6:30 PM This month’s program will feature Mamie Eisenhower, who was the wife of United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and First Lady of the United States from 1953 to 1961. Presented by the Boone County Historical Society. History of McDivitt Grove Cemetery Thursday, October 20th at 6:30 PM Mary Polson, long-time Urbandale resident, invites you to join her at the Urbandale Public Library for a virtual tour of the McDivitt Grove Cemetery located on Meredith Drive. She will share the history of the cemetery, and of the Urbandale residents who have had an impact on the city - some deceased, some still living! Adult Movie Night Thursday, October 27th at 6:00 PM Adult Movie Night meets the 4th Thursday of each month in the ICN Classroom at 6:00 pm. This month we’ll be showing The Cabin in the Woods (R/95 min.), a 2012 movie about five friends who go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get more than they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods. Adult Coloring Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 AM Adult drop-in program - Join other adults who are participating in the relaxing hobby of coloring. Colored pencils, pens, and coloring sheets provided. Active Adults Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 AM Adult drop-in program - We'll provide crafts, puzzles, games, and more - all you have to do is show up and choose your activity! Friday FlicksFridays at 1:00 PM We will be showing scary movies this month. - October 7 - 10 Cloverfield Lane (PG-13/105 min.)

Teen Book Club (TBC) Monday, October 10th at 6:30 PM Teens ages 13 and up are invited to join the TBC for snacks and discussion. TBC meets the second Monday of every month. Participants receive a free copy of Of Metal and Wishes by Sarah Fine. Teens can also participate in the book discussions through Edmodo.

LEGO Club Friday, October 28th from 4:00 to 5:00 PM Kids, age 5 and up, join other LEGO enthusiasts and create unique LEGO designs. LEGOs and fun provided. No registration. Youth Chess Club Wednesdays (October 5, 12, 19, & 26) from 4:00 to 5:00 PM Kids age 8 and up can get some hands-on, chess experience. Whether you’re a newbie, an intermediate or a seasoned player, drop by the Library to share your interest in the game of chess. Minecraft Mania Mondays (October 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31) from 4:00 to 5:30 pm Kids age 8 to 12 years are encouraged to test their Minecraft skills on the Youth Services computers and with console games. No registration.

Science Sleuths Friday, October 14th at 11:00 AM This thirty-minute hands-on science program designed for kids ages 3 – 6. Small sleuths, accompanied by an adult, will explore shadows. Kids will listen to a story, make a craft and enjoy other activities. Please register each month online or by calling 278-3945. Aspiring Artists Friday, October 21st at 11:00 AM Children age 3 to 6 years can explore the beauty of sculpture. Expose your child to different types of art and help them with an art activity. Small artists must be accompanied by an adult care giver. Please register each month online, or by calling 278-3945. Spanish Story Time with Selina Saturday, October 22nd at 10:30 AM Families with kids age 2 years and up can join Selina Hamilton for thirty minutes of stories, songs and activities in Spanish. Glow-in-the-Dark Fun Thursday, October 27th at 7:00 PM Families with kids age 2 to 6 years will enjoy nighttime stories, games and activities that will light up their night. Costumes welcome!

Book Babies Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays at 9:30 AM An introduction to literacy for children age 12 – 24 months with an adult. Participate in simple stories, activities and songs. Programs last approximately 20 minutes. No registration. Toddler TimeMondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays at 10:00 AM Toddler Time is for two year old children with an adult. The twenty minute session is filled with stories, music and movement. No registration. Evening Family Story Time Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM Youngsters age two and up may come in their pajamas, if you like, for stories and fun. No registration. Family Story Time Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 AM and 10:15 AM Features stories, songs, and activities and is open to youngsters ages 2 and up. Sessions last about 30 minutes. No registration. Mothers & Others Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM Caregivers of children age infant to 36 months are invited to drop in and socialize, while your babies explore the board books, blocks, balls and other toys available in the Story Room. Drop by on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 am. No registration.
