These lovely okra seeds were donated by Angela of Our Little Barnyard. Her grandmother's brother, Virgil Redwine, has saved these for around 50 years and passed them along to her. While she is not sure of the exact variety, her uncle calls them chubby okra. As part of his Jackson Cookies delivery route, he met Ruby Dockery and her husband who gave him the seeds. This okra had been in Ruby's family for around 100 years. Here is a little more info about Ruby Dockery:
"RubyChristine ShepherdDockery, 93, of Hot Springs, passed away Wednesday, January 13. Ruby was born in Finley, Arkansas. She married Marcus Jackson Dockery in 1931 and they continued to farm in the same rural area until world War II, at which time they moved to Hot Springs where Marcus was employed at the Reynolds Defense Plant. After the war, Marcus and Ruby owned and operated a grocery store on Grand Avenue in Hot Springs until retirement."
