Who Won the Whoopee War? Wednesday, February 7th, 2 p.m. Lakewood Branch It began when Dallas was given the honor of hosting the Texas Centennial at Fair Park. In retaliation Fort Worth boosters built the world’s longest bar, brought in Broadway shows, and hired burlesque fan-dancer Sally Rand to bring crowds to their Frontier Exposition. This was the “Whoopee War” that started in 1936 and continues to the present day as the traditional Dallas/Fort Worth rivalry. Learn more about how this “war” between the cities benefited them both at this whimsical presentation by Dr. Paul Benson of Mountain View College.
