Can you believe it’s December already? It’s always such a busy month as everyone prepares for the holidays. That usually means that life at the library gets a little slower for staff – which gives us time to do some maintenance tasks that we can’t normally get to. It also allows staff to take some much needed time off. Even so, we have a number of events planned for you to enjoy if you can fit them into your schedule.
Perhaps the most important event is the Friends of the Library’s Holiday Book Sale at Mt. Pleasant Regional. On Friday, Nov. 30 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., you can find some of the best deals in town – just in time for Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. You’ll find books, DVDs and CDs, with prices starting at $1 for paperbacks and $3 for hardback books; children’s books start at just 50 cents. Items include mysteries, romances, classics, children’s books, local histories, cookbooks, and a variety of non-fiction topics. Plus, there will be a limited number of special handmade ornaments for sale, lovingly prepared by Mt. Pleasant Regional staff. For questions, call 843-805-6882 or email info@charlestonlibraryfriends.org.
Be sure to check the calendars at the links below for more programs. Highlights include a discussion of opioid abuse in South Carolina on Tuesday, Dec. 4 from 2-3:30 p.m.; the first entry in the new season of Indie Lens Pop-Up (“RUMBLE”) on Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 2:30-4 p.m.; and a showing of “The Polar Express” on Thursday, December 27 starting at 10:30 a.m. Plus, we have a number of continuing programs such as book discussions, storytimes, yoga, Dungeons & Dragons, Mah Jongg, STAR Therapy Dogs, Lego Club, and so forth. As always, there’s something for everyone and I hope you can take advantage of these offerings during December.
With sincere best wishes for a joyous holiday season,
