For such a short month, February brings a number of holidays with it. From Valentine’s Day to Presidents Day, and African-American History Month throughout, Mt. Pleasant Regional has ways to observe this special time.
I want to bring your attention to a few programs in particular:
On Wednesday, February 6 from 5:30-7 p.m., come to “Turning a New Leaf: From Prison to Progress, Stories of Success,” where you will hear inspirational stories from participants of the Turning Leaf program here in Charleston.
Then on Wednesday, February 13, from 6-7:30 p.m., CCPL’s gifted historian Dr. Nic Butler will present the dramatic, true-life story of “Abraham the Unstoppable: Black Hero of Colonial South Carolina.”
In another celebration of African-American History Month, on Saturday, February 16 from 1-3 p.m., join us for “Tracing Your Gullah Geechee Roots” to learn about various genealogy resources for African-American families in the Lowcountry from Toni Carrier, director of the Center for Family History at the International African American Museum; National Park Service Chief of Interpretation Paula Ogden-Muse; and CCPL’s own Marianne Cawley, manager of the South Carolina Room and genealogy expert.
You’ll find invaluable gardening information from Master Gardener Darren Sheriff at “Start Your Garden Now” on Monday, February 25 from 6-7:30 p.m. as he leads you through the first few months of the Charleston growing season.
Tax help begins this month as well. VITA Free Income Tax Preparation will be available on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. from February 2 through April 13. AARP will be available on Mondays and Fridays from 1-5 p.m. (last client taken at 4:00) from February 4 through April 12. All tax help is on a first-come, first-served basis. Call us for more information.
Of course, we have our ongoing programs such as storytimes, DIY Arts & Crafts, STAR Therapy Dogs and Lego Club for children; Dungeons & Dragons for teens; and many opportunities for adults – book discussions, writing groups, Knit and Stitch, Yoga and Meditation, Coffee and Conversation, Mah Jongg and Great Decisions.
As always, our dedicated staff are willing and able to help you as needed.
