Turkey trot murder : a Lucy Stone mysteryby Leslie MeierOne of my fav cozy mysteries and I really like this author however, I wish the 'political' theme throughout the book was left off. Alison Franklin is found in Blueberry Pond and rumors fly that she was high on drugs and fell through the ice. I appreciate the focus on the drug addiction going on throughout the country and it works into the story line. Alison's Dad is a rich, overbearing force in the town of Tinker Cove and ends up murdered while sitting in his SUV watching a demonstration against a Latino famous Chef trying to open a new eatery in town, which is against Mr. Franklin's wishes. Plots inter-wind and the true killer is revealed after the wrong person is accused of killing Mr. Franklin. Twists and turns makes this a great read. Submitted by Judy

The nature fix : why nature makes us happier, healthier, and more creativeby Florence Williams Maybe you know you feel good from taking a walk in the woods, or being at the beach. This book gives scientific evidence as to why you do and why it's important to you mentally, physically and spiritually. So step away from your screen; like your mother always told you, " Go outside and play!" Submitted by Carol

The Death of Santini : The Story of a Father and His Sonby Pat Conroy This book is so powerful I'm not sure where to begin. Perhaps you read The Great Santini or saw the movie with Robert Duval. That was a story of how a Marine fighter pilot abused his family, especially his oldest son. This book is the follow up. It speaks of the disruption in Pat Conroy's family afterThe Great Santini was released; how each family member survived such a difficult upbringing.....or sadly didn't survive. Pat Conroy is honest about some of his own failings due to how he was raised and how his dad changed as he aged. In the end it is how Pat made peace with his dad and family. Conroy is a very talented author who grabs your attention and doesn't let go. Some scenes are hard going, but it is worth your time. Submitted by Carol

Summer Island by Kristin HannahThis is a wonderful book about the complexity of a mother daughter relationship which has soured. Nora Bridges is a very famous advice columnist and radio host. Ruby is her 22 year old estranged daughter whom she left behind after divorcing her father. When some scandalous pictures hit the press showing Nora in compromising photos which undermined her credibility as a relationship advisor to millions Ruby decides to write a tell all book about her horrible mother in exchange for a large sum of money. Nora has a terrible car accident and wants to recover at a beach house that her family owned on Summer Island. Ruby decides to help her mom to recover with the hopes of revealing the horrible childhood with her mother. As the two become thrown together in this beach house secrets are revealed about her mothers motives and they begin to find some common ground to try to rebuild their relationship. This book is fabulous and really looks deeply into the complex relationship between a mother and her daughter. It is not some fluffy beach read! Submitted by Ann

Upside downby Fern MichaelsHaving read every book in The Sisterhood Series that Fern Michaels has written, I was very excited to read the first in the new series. What a terrible disappointment. When the husbands of those characters in the Sisterhood series form their own vigilante justice league to try to oust a corrupt slum land lord who also happens to be the lieutenant governor of Virginia the premise of the story is set. However the plot never gets off the ground despite using characters who are familiar to you and their backstory has already been told. I would not recommend this series based on this book. This is not the nail biting plot twisting series you have come to expect from Fern Michaels! Submitted by Ann
