Do you have a few overdue library items lying around your house? Starting December 1st, to celebrate the holiday season, the Library is starting a fine amnesty program. Bring back your overdue library material, and we will waive both the replacement fees and the fines on your account. If you received a bill from the Library, that's still okay. We will waive your fees - all of them. If you have older fines on your account from items you already returned, we will waive them, too. It's all good.
A few exceptions: fines on mobile hotspots and museum passes will not be waived. Items returned damaged will still be subject to replacement fees.
We have an ulterior motive, of course. We would like our long overdue books and DVDs to be returned so that other borrowers may enjoy them. And we don't want to spend money buying extra copies of books that are not returned. The fine amnesty program is a win-win for the Library and our members. If you are so inclined, we will not refuse a donation in lieu of your late fees, but that is entirely up to you.
Happy Holidays. and many happy *returns!*

Happy Bookers: The Library Book Wednesday, December 4, 7:00pm On the morning of April 29, 1986, a fire alarm sounded in the Los Angeles Public Library. The fire was disastrous: it reached 2000 degrees and burned for more than seven hours. By the time it was extinguished, it had consumed four hundred thousand books and damaged seven hundred thousand more. Investigators descended on the scene, but more than thirty years later, the mystery remains: Did someone purposefully set fire to the library—and if so, who? Weaving her lifelong love of books and reading into an investigation of the fire, award-winning New Yorker reporter and New York Times bestselling author Susan Orlean delivers a mesmerizing and uniquely compelling book that manages to tell the broader story of libraries and librarians in a way that has never been done before. Multiple copies of the book are available for reserve. See the Happy Bookers website for more information.
