A Message from the Library Director

To Our Library Family, We know what a strange and stressful time this is for all our patrons, and for the library staff as well. Like many of you, we are working from home to try to bring you the services you expect, but in new and different ways. While we can’t offer you physical books and movies, you can keep the ones you have on hand as long as we are closed – no fines will be due. And we are working hard to optimize our digital offerings to keep you informed and entertained until we are open again.

Online Library Card Applications
|
|
Are there people in your household that do not have a library card? We can fix that! For the duration of the library closure, we are accepting online card applications from Phillipsburg residents. Cards will be good for two months. Once we’re open, you can visit us in person and present a valid ID to make your card permanent. Please allow two days for processing of your request. Visit http://www.pburglib.org/temp-library-cards/

As we are all staying home, the popularity of eBooks is surging. Our cloudLibrary is a catalog of eBooks that we share with many other libraries in northwestern New Jersey, and we know that wait times for popular titles have become long. We just purchased some new titles prioritized for Phillipsburg Library patrons, so your hold time will be much shorter. See new books by Clive Cussler, Danielle Steel, Debbie Macomber, and more! Because the site is so busy, there may be times it is hard to reach the catalog. Try first thing in the morning!

Find Your Roots... from Home!

Great news for genealogists! Many of you take advantage of the Library’s subscription to Ancestry.com. It is usually only available for use inside the building, but for the duration of the COVID-19 outbreak, our vendor is permitting patrons to access it from home. Go to our website and click on Borrow and Log in to Patron Account. You will see a link to Ancestry Library Edition in the upper left-hand corner of the page. If you don’t remember your login password, contact us at reference_staff@pburglib.org and we can reset it for you.

Even MORE Digital Resources!
|
|
While our building is closed, our staff has been working hard to find more online resources for our patrons. Here are some collections of resources we've put together: More Digital Resources - Don't want to wait for your next eBook or Audiobook? Missing live performances or trips to museums, zoos, and aquariums? We've gathered a list of resources for free online eBooks, audiobooks, live performances, and virtual tours, all in one place! Remote Access to Databases - In addition to the databases our patrons can always access from home, we are happy to announce that EBSCO is offering the additional databases for free to New Jersey Libraries.

Children's Department - Online!

Join Ms. Christina for Laptime! We encourage our littlest patrons and their caregivers to sing along with the song portion of our program on YouTube, and then enjoy a special play time after just like we do at the library. Ms. Mary Beth will be leading Storytime every Wednesday just like always! A new video will launch on YouTube every week, so join us as we learn about germs, the weather, and more! The Stuffies have taken over our Facebook and Instagram feeds! Left to their own devices, the library's stuffed animal friends have become quite the online stars. Check in every weekday to see what they've gotten up to, and into. Keep an extra close eye on that Chicken, he's been keeping everyone on their toes!

Gaudy Night : A Lord Peter Wimsey Mystery With Harriet Vaneby Dorothy L. SayersWhen Harriet Vane attends her Oxford reunion, known as the Gaudy, the prim academic setting is haunted by a rash of bizarre pranks: scrawled obscenities, burnt effigies, and poison-pen letters, including one that says, "Ask your boyfriend with the title if he likes arsenic in his soup." Some of the notes threaten murder; all are perfectly ghastly; yet in spite of their scurrilous nature, all are perfectly worded. And Harriet finds herself ensnared in a nightmare of romance and terror, with only the tiniest shreds of clues to challenge her powers of detection, and those of her paramour, Lord Peter Wimsey. Selected by Deb Messling, Library Director
