Summer Reading Program 2014 Fizz! Boom! Read! Register anytime between June 23rd and August 8th - For children ages birth through 5th grade
- Reading will be counted 20 minutes at a time. You can either read for 20 minutes, be read to for 20 minutes, or even listen to a book on cd/audiobook for 20 minutes!
- Earn special prizes throughout the summer as you travel the Reading Chart.

, Hamstead Stage Presents Alice in Wonderland Tuesday, July 8 2:00 - 2:45 pm Lewis Carroll's immortal classic, Alice in Wonderland, is a wonderful tale of a young girl, whose boredom takes her on a journey of imagination. Through Alice's travels, everyday things become extraordinary. The words on the page come alive as she recites "The Jabberwocky" and learns how to overcome her own fears. Through this story, we hope to encourage children to enjoy using their imagination, triumph over their fears, and find magical things right in their own backyard. This exciting program is for children ages 4 - 12. Tickets will be available in the Children’s Room starting Monday, June 30, and a nominal fee of $0.50 will be charged for individual admission.

Jungle Encounters Thursday, July 31 6:00 - 7:45 pm Jungle Encounters provide a professional, safe, educational, and fun show. The audience will leave with a good understanding of how small wild cats survive in the wild and the challenges they face. The audience will also see wild cats during the show. This exciting program is for children ages 6 - 12. Tickets will be available in the Children’s Room starting Monday, July 21, and a nominal fee of $0.50 will be charged for individual admission.

Bubblemania Monday, August 4 2:00 - 3:45 pm Bubble-ologist Casey Carle will be at the Library for his BubbleMania Show. Children will learn how bubbles form, why they’re spherical, how to make a cube bubble and the science of bubble bursting. This exciting program is for children ages 5 - 12. Tickets will be available in the Children’s Room starting Monday, July 28, and a nominal fee of $0.50 will be charged for individual admission.

Scott Jablonski as Benjamin Franklin Thursday, August 14 2:00 - 2:45 pm Benjamin Franklin was a lover of books and a life-long learner, whose work in science positively impacted countless numbers of people! In this high energy presentation Scott uses original music, visuals and crowd participation to introduce some of Dr. Franklin's scientific works in a fun, creative and meaningful way. This exciting program is for children ages 4 - 12. Tickets will be available in the Children’s Room starting Monday, July 28, and a nominal fee of $0.50 will be charged for individual admission.

Open Art Thursdays, July 10 & 31 11:00 am - 2:00 pm This craft program is drop-in format meaning no registration is required. Children, ages 4 - 10, are invited to choose and complete one of the craft projects being offered on a first-come/first-serve basis. The crafts will be science-themed to go along with our summer reading program. Parents/guardians are asked to remain in the Children’s Program Room with their child. Donations are always welcome and appreciated.

Farm to Plate: Summer Harvest Thursday, July 22 4:00 - 5:00 pm It’s summertime and the food is fresh and tasty! Join us for this ongoing cooking with fresh food program for children ages 4-12. We will be cooking up some healthy summer treats that are homemade with fresh air and warm sunshine! There will be a summer-themed story and children will make some great snacks to eat. We will also have some special guests from Franklin Farm, who will tell us about the good work they do there, and we’ll discuss the many nutritious vegetables they grow. Come see how easy it is to eat healthy food that tastes good too! This is a drop in program, no registration is required.

Children's Book Club Thursdays, July 17 & August 7 6:30 - 7:30 pm The Children’s Room invites readers, ages 7 - 12, to participate in a Summer book club. Copies of the books will be available to check out with your library card. July 17th: Frindle by Andrew Clements When he decides to turn his fifth grade teacher's love of the dictionary around on her, clever Nick Allen invents a new word and begins a chain of events that quickly moves beyond his control.Children can pick up a library copy of this book when they register. Registration begins on Monday, June 30. August 7th: Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein Twelve-year-old Kyle gets to stay overnight in the new town library, designed by his hero (the famous gamemaker Luigi Lemoncello), with other students but finds that come morning he must work with friends to solve puzzles in order to escape.
Children will receive a free copy of this book when they register. Registration begins on Thursday, July 17.

Design Your Own T-Shirt Saturday, August 2 10:00 - 11:00 am Children ages 4 - 12 can come and create a unique t-shirt using fabric markers, stencils, and your own special style. It can be a special memento of your summer vacation! The t-shirt will be provided. Registration begins on Monday, July 21.
