Voting for the Rhode Island Children's Book Award is now open!Calling all kids in Grades 3-6! If you've read at least 3 books from the RICBA list, you can vote! Which is your favorite book of the 20 books on the list? Let your voice be heard! Come in to the Children's Room to cast your ballot. You’ll have until March 6th to vote; there's still time to read a few of the books listed. Remember: read at least 3 books to vote!

Puppet Pros Wednesday, March 8th 6 - 7 pm Children in Grades K-2 Registration Required Come check-out our new, once-a-month literacy & art program for kids in Grades K-2. Each month, kids will listen to themed stories and create a puppet.This month, we'll be reading stories from Mo Willems' popular Elephant & Piggie series and making puppets that know how to party! Children can register online or in the Children's Room. Space is limited to 15 children; registration will continue until the program is filled.

Rainbow Tea Party Tuesday, March 14th 10:30 a.m. Children Ages 3 - 5 Registration Required You are cordially invited to a Rainbow Tea Party! Children ages 3 - 5 may join us for colorful crafts, stories, songs, and "tea." Wear your most colorful outfit and help bring a little brightness to the last week of Winter. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, February 27th. Register online or by coming in to the Children's Room. Space is limited to 14 children. Registration is required.

Project Chick: Part One Wednesday, March 22nd 4:00 p.m. All Ages Ticket Required A farm educator from Historic New England's Casey Farm in Saunderstown will read a story and introduce children to a live hen. A display of various bird eggs -- from hummingbird to ostrich -- will be available for viewing. The Children's Room will receive all supplies needed to incubate a clutch of eggs that will hatch in 21 days. Estimated hatch date is Wednesday, April 12th. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning March 13th in the Children's Room. Tickets are 50 cents.

Project Chick: Part Two Friday, April 21st 2:00 pm All ages Ticket Required Join the fun as we say goodbye to our chicks. Listen to a story by a farm educator and visit with our chicks one last time. If you are unable to make the first program listed above, be sure to mark your calendar for this program -- or come to both! Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Monday, March 13th in the Children's Room. Tickets are 50 cents.

Paws to Read Thursday, March 16th 5:30 pm-6:30 pm Drop In Readers age 12 and under Want to brush up on your reading skills and love dogs? Practice with a therapy dog who loves to listen to stories! This is a drop-in program (first-come, first-served), no registration required. Children will have a 15 minute one-on-one reading session. Please note, this program is for children who are reading on their own. All volunteer teams are from Windwalker Pet Therapy.

Block Party! Every Saturday Through May 13th 10 am - 1 pm Drop In All Ages Join the fun in the Children’s Room every Saturday from January 7th through May 13th from 10 am to 1 pm. Through the generosity of the Friends of the Library, we are able to offer a wider variety of new building toys such as Magna-Tiles, Magz Bricks, and KAPLA blocks. All ages are welcome! *There will be no Block Party on Saturday, April 1st (as the space will be in use for Harry Potter Day!)

Spring Storytime at the Cumberland Public Library The Spring Storytime Session will begin on Monday, April 10th. This session ends on Wednesday, May 17th.
All storytimes are drop-in, no registration required!
