Cake Decorating 101: Frosting Essentials Saturday, October 14th at 1:30 PM This three part cake making series will show you all you need to know to begin creating your own amazing cakes at home! You learned the Basic Tips and Tricks in class 1, but in this second class frosting is the star! Our wonderful guest chef Sarah will give a 30-minute tutorial then you will have a full hour to practice your new cake decorating skills! Already know your way around the cake scene but never worked with fondant? That's ok too! Join us for our 3rd class in the series 10/28/17 when fondant takes the stage! SYFY's Ghost Hunter Dustin Pari! Monday, October 16th at 6:30 pm Join us for a special event with the SyFy Network’s official Ghost Hunter, Dustin Pari! Dustin takes a look back at his own efforts to conduct paranormal research and brings it back even further to some of the earliest spirit communication techniques. Complete with historical stories, evidence, and some “would-be” evidence, Dustin promises some respectful and intriguing tales of contacting the other side. The Rocky Horror Picture Show Friday, October 20th at 8:00 PM Join us for an early celebration of Halloween goodness with a showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show! Learn how to do the “Time Warp” and celebrate Halloween early! This adults-only program welcomes long-time fans and newbies to have the full viewing experience in watching this classic cult favorite. Participants are welcome to bring their own prop kits from the list at http://www.rockyhorror.com/participation/proplist.php. The library just asks that you do not bring the messier items. Today, guest chef Sarah Maroney will take a half hour to walk you through the dos and don’ts of working with fondant, and then you will be able to a get hands on experience in the fabulous world of fondant for yourself! Already know your way around the cake scene but never worked with fondant? Even better! You get to learn with an accomplished chef! Participants can register for a single or multiple classes. CPL RI Teen Read Challenge Are you a teen that loves to read the best, most popular books? Do you like book trivia and read different types of stories? Then this is the challenge for you! The RI Teen Read Challenge is divided by grades. 6th-8th graders are challenged to read as many books from the RI Middle School Book Award list (RIMSBA) and high schoolers read off the RI Teen Book Award list (RITBA). We’ll host a trivia event and raffles in February for those who complete the challenge, where we’ll also vote on our favorite book on the list. This reading challenge will happen online—sign up and log books starting 9/15/17 at http://cpl.readsquared.com.

Teen Art Showcase We're taking submissions for a teen art show inspired by the theme, "Unleash Your Story." Teens are invited to submit a piece of art that would be the book cover of their biography. Submissions can be dropped off between September 18— October 8 and will be displayed in the library during October. We will raffle off a $25 gift card to Blick Art Materials in Providence to teens who enter the art show! For more info on guidelines, please see staff.

Teen Volunteer Corp Thursday, September 21 at 6:30 PM The Teen Volunteer Corp is a great option for teens who have yearly service requirements or just want to volunteer as much as possible. When you join, you’ll receive regular requests for volunteering. Plus, we’ll hold an optional monthly meeting to plan activities, spruce up the Teen Center, and educate new members.

Teen Volunteer Drop-In Saturday, October 7 from 11 AM –1 PM. Once a month from October—May, we host a no-registration-required event for teens who just need a few volunteer hours or who just want to try it out with low commitment. These events are usually good deeds for the library or community.
